Wednesday afternoon has seen news that one of Newcastle United’s first team has broken his wrist.
The Mail have broken the story and they report that it is Matt Ritchie who has suffered the break.
The newspaper says that the break actually happened in the later stages of the 3-0 home defeat to Watford, with the winger staying on the pitch to finish the game rather than coming off.
He then followed that up by insisting he was available for the match at The Hawthorns.
The NUFC medical staff arranging for the winger to wear a lightweight protective cast so he could take part in the game, fans watching Tuesday night’s match assuming it was just a bandage for a minor problem.
Just as well he took part, as Matt Ritchie proved to be one of Newcastle’s better players and it was his free-kick that was deflected in by Jonny Evans to get a point for NUFC, plus he also claimed an assist with a cross for the first goal scored by Ciaran Clark.
Not in the best of form recently, maybe the pain from the broken wrist has provoked Ritchie into getting back closer to his best.
The Scotland international will once again wear the cast when Newcastle travel to Chelsea on Saturday.
One thing about Matt Ritchie, his form may dip at times but he never hides.
