The Rafa Benitez Manchester United press conference has taken place on Friday lunchtime.

The United boss once again deflecting any questions asked about a potential takeover of the club.

Jose Mourinho praised Rafa ahead of Saturday’s match but the Newcastle manager says he is concentrating more on the players his side will be facing tomorrow.

Benitez name checking the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Rashford as dangers to his team.

After two narrow losses to Burnley and Bournemouth, Rafa Benitez says this is simply ‘part of the process’ for a promoted club that is adjusting to the top tier.

He hopes the losing run can be stopped at Old Trafford but confirms they will have to do it without Lascelles, Atsu, Merino and Dummett.

Rafa Benitez Manchester United press conference:

“Man Utd is a massive club, a very good team. They spend a lot of money and can compete in any competition.

Mourinho has won a lot of trophies with a lot of teams. He is a good manager.

“My main concern is Lukaku, Mata, Herrera, Rashford.

“The young players we have, the squad we have, we have to do as well as we were doing at the beginning. We have to continue being united, then we will be stronger.

“We are a newly-promoted club that needs to settle down in the Premier League.

“To lose games is part of the process and hopefully we can stop that this weekend.

“As always, we will try to do our best to get three points if we can.

“We have to do almost everything right to do that. They have so much quality, they score goals, create chances and don’t concede too much.

“Paul Dummett is getting closer.

“Mikel  Merino has been training with a member of our staff in Spain.

“Jamaal Lascelles and Christian Atsu are injured and will not be available – Atsu will be out a couple of weeks, we’ll see next week how Lascelles feels.

(Asked about a potential sale of the club) “The information I have is that we will play tomorrow at Manchester United. We have to concentrate on our football, that is it.”
