Newcastle 0 Watford 3 – Instant United fan/writer reaction to Saturday defeat
Newcastle 0 Watford 3 – Saturday 25 November 2017 3pm
We asked a number of our regular writers to give us a brief instant reaction after the final whistle:
“Christ, that was desperate.
“Marvin Zeegelaar’s total destruction of us from left back was reminiscent of Sessegnon doing a similar job v Fulham earlier in the year.
“The United player coming out of this the best was by far Lascelles.
“If his influence and organisation is the difference between the usually decent rearguard and this abject shambles today, then he is totally invaluable and can’t come back quick enough.
“Joselu was terrible again, far from being a Premier League striker, but to be fair they all had stinkers.
“Murphy at least had a go, some decent moments on one of his personal better showings so far.
“With an ominous fixture list ahead, we are bang in trouble and need taken over desperately before disaster strikes again.
“Oh, and let’s be fair here, Watford are a canny little team who took full advantage of our plight to blaze at us Keegan style.”
“Absolutely disgraceful. The fact we have lost the previous three games compounds this performance.
“Every single person associated with our football club should hang their heads in shame. And that includes our messiah manager.
“We have all been screaming for Mitro to play ahead of Joselu – but no. Once again we are subjected to his complete lack of threat of scoring a goal. Enough was enough weeks ago!!!
“West Brom now becomes huge.
“If we lose 5 in a row then a relegation battle will very much be on, given our fixtures through December and January.
“We cannot let this disaster of a result undermine Rafa.
“I do hope he considers moving away from the 4-4-2 as we seem far too open.
“If we had drawn the Bournemouth and Watford games what would everyone’s feeling be?
“I would still be positive but this is a real gut puncher of a result.
“4 points from the next 2 please.”
“Seemed to lack leaders on the pitch today.
“Our lack of quality going forward was punished and we looked likely to concede whenever they were on the attack.
“Thoroughly disappointing as before the match I felt we were in for a good game (as is often the case recently).”
“I know everyone will be screaming that it’s a terrible result. It is man, it is I know.
“But Watford were THE perfect away team. Best I’ve seen this year or the last couple of years.
“We were bad and played into their hands.
“We miss Lascelles, Shelvey didn’t step up, Joselu gets worse and worse – but we are what we are.
“No lack of effort – but just well short of what’s required. Diame is THE worst player we have got and gets a game – WTF?
“The sooner we get this club sold and give Rafa a chance the better.
“Getting mortal to sort mesel out. Goodnight.”
“Can I be the first to officially declare that we’re in freefall?
“A very chastening day for all concerned with Newcastle Utd.
“A long battle lies ahead.”
“I’ll be polite and simply say what a disappointing performance!!
“To lose 3-0 to Watford at home… can you believe it?
“They were fitter and faster, they are not a top of the table team and yet they won with ease.
“Some regrouping to do before West Brom on Tuesday as by the end of the game I thought we looked like we’d given up.”
“Beyond a joke with Joselu now.
“Rafa isn’t immune from criticism and starting Joselu is now tantamount to chucking the game before we’ve even kicked off.
“As for the rest of the side.. Get the wages docked for that shambles.”
