Michael Owen has been looking ahead to West Brom v Newcastle.

The one-time NUFC striker describes it as ‘fascinating’ that Manager-elect, Alan Pardew, is set to take over when the next two West brom matches are against Newcastle and Crystal Palace – two teams he previously mis-(managed).

The Baggies are away to Swansea after that home match against Palace and no doubt these will be three games that West Brom will be targeting to drag them up the table, especially as matches against Liverpool and Man Utd immediately follow.

Tonight is a game where both teams will be desperate not to lose, West Brom to build on their point at Wembley and Newcastle to arrest a four game losing run.

The two clubs are bottom and third bottom of the form league (last six games) and with only two points from 18 for West Brom and four for Newcastle, arguably both will settle for that.

Certainly there is little prospect of the kind of open game that Watford helped bring about at St James Park with their very attacking style.

Michael Owen says ‘I can’t split the sides and expect them to share the spoils’.

On this occasion I probably can’t disagree with him.

For any neutrals watching, this is very much a game that could do with an early goal but with the two teams desperate not to concede, it could be a need for a very patient night.

As for Alan Pardew, it would perfectly suit his ego if he is named West Brom’s new manager before kick-off and can sit in the stands. Then if West Brom win he can take the glory but if they lose, he can claim he hasn’t taken over properly yet!

Michael Owen speaking to Betvictor:

“Managerless Albion picked up a valuable point at Wembley on Saturday and Newcastle will want to arrest their current slide midweek.

“Alan Pardew appears to be on the brink of taking over at the Hawthorns (1/6 at the time of writing) and it is fascinating that the Baggies next two games are against Newcastle and Palace – both clubs previously managed by Pardew.

“I can’t split the sides and expect them to share the spoils.

“Prediction – Game to finish in a draw at 85/40.”
