Michael Owen “Newcastle deserve great credit for coming from two goals down but…”

You wouldn’t bet on many teams coming back from two goals down.

Even less so if like Newcastle you had lost your previous four matches.

Michael Owen thinks ‘Newcastle deserve great credit for coming from two goals down to snatch a point at the Hawthorns midweek…’

However, he believes two things will happen at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea will win and Newcastle won’t score a goal according to Michael Owen.

A narrow 1-0 win over Swansea on Wednesday night had Owen suggesting maybe their ‘busy schedule was catching up with them’.

That was their fourth game in 11 days so not sure how Chelsea will suddenly be refreshed when playing once again less than 63 hours after that Swansea game ended.

Newcastle have to travel of course, but with the team flying to matches, it isn’t the five+ hours of the past on a coach for today’s pampered players.

Rafa Benitez will have had an extra day’s training and the players 24 hours more recovery time, so hopefully the energy levels can help Newcastle to match their opponents, or even better them…

In only three of their last ten Premier League matches have the blues managed to score more than one goal, so if Newcastle can get the first goal then who knows?

Certainly I fancy that if this did happen, they would stand far more chance of holding on for something than they did against a Paul Pogba inspired Manchester United, who also had the luxury of bringing on somebody like Ibrahimovic from the bench.

With Merino hopefully fully fit after his first start in over eight weeks, plus Jonjo Shelvey and Dwight Gayle having played only 10 minutes between them against West Brom, Newcastle’s better players will hopefully be well up for this one and physically in great shape.

Michael Owen speaking to Betvictor:

“Newcastle deserve great credit for coming from two goals down to snatch a point at the Hawthorns midweek…

“But champions Chelsea cannot be opposed at Stamford Bridge.

“The Blues weren’t at their best against Swansea midweek when it looked as if their busy schedule was catching up with them.

“But they picked up all three points and I think they may have a more comfortable afternoon in Saturday’s early kick-off.

“Prediction – Chelsea to win to nil at 4/5.”
