Michael Owen has given his opinion on Saturday’s Newcastle v Bournemouth match.

Rafa Benitez goes into the game with a quite incredible record when it comes to Saturday home games.

The last one he lost in the Premier League was back in March 2007 what at Liverpool, losing to Manchester United.

Overall, in the last 58 Premier League Saturday home matches, the Spaniard has only lost that one game v Man Utd – racking  up 47 wins and 10 draws.

Since joining Newcastle in March 2016, Michael Owen points to the fact the Magpies have won all five Premier League home games on a Saturday.

When it comes to predictions, it took until the ninth round of games for Mark Lawrenson to predict a Newcastle win, which indeed proved correct, when NUFC bear Palace 1-0.

Then game week 10 last weekend saw even Paul Merson predict a Newcastle victory, though exactly why he fancied Newcastle to win at Burnley but not at home to Palace is anybody’s guess.

Now on the 11th match and three months into the season, even Michael Owen has finally cracked.

He at last predicts a win for Rafa’s team, pointing to their home form, despite the defeat at Burnley last weekend.

Last time out Bournemouth lost 1-0 at home to Chelsea but the last Premier League away match saw a very decent 2-1 victory, suggesting they aren’t going to be any pushovers.

Michael Owen speaking to BetVictor:

“Rafa Benitez has won all five Premier League home games played on a Saturday with Newcastle and I think he will make it six out of six when the Cherries visit St James Park.

“The Magpies weren’t at their best at Turf Moor on Monday but they are a different proposition at home and I think they can keep the points.”

What are the odds of getting a penalty or having an opposing player sent off?

We should have merino back which i think has been our lucky charm.

Really want rafa to start mitro. Jose has been awful in the last 2 and needs pulling. Id like to see ritchie or shelvey as the 10 and murphy on the wing

Who gives a flying one about what these ex pros say – it’s just jobs for the boys and relevant to exactly f all.

He fell off his horse twice at the Jockey’s school recently – I hope he lands on his heed next time and we never hear from him again!

  • Rich Lawson

Even Owen’s horse doesn’t fancy him for a win and throws him off twice in a warm up ! Surely he is now injured (again) ?
