Mark Lawrenson is following the herd, praising Newcastle for their midweek comeback but still thinking they will get nothing at Stamford Bridge.
He predicted defeat for Newcastle at The Hawthorns and thinks it will be 2-0 to Chelsea on Saturday.
In their last 10 Premier League games, only three times have Chelsea scored more than one goal.
The stats on Wednesday night at Stamford Bridge were 21 v 2 when it came to shots, 10 v 0 for attempts on target, then 15 v 1 on corners, despite their domination Mark Lawrenson says that against Swansea, Chelsea eventually got the win’against a side who defend in numbers’.
Only four times in 14 Premier League matches have Chelsea won by more than one goal, so if Newcastle can get the defending back up to standard then they give themselves a chance.
If Newcastle are to get anything on Saturday then Matt Ritchie is likely to be involved.
Of 13 NUFC goals scored this season he has five assists, including the two set-pieces against West Brom that led to goals.
If Newcastle can get a decent number of situations around the box then they are always capable of scoring, if they do manage that then it could get interesting, with Chelsea not totally firing despite being third in the league.
Making his predictions alongside Mark Lawrenson for BBC Sport this weekend, comedian Nish Kumar says he was impressed with Newcastle at Old Trafford a fortnight ago and he believes ‘it will be tight’ at Stamford Bridge, though he still thinks Chelsea will win 2-1.
Mark Lawrenson talking to BBC Sport:
“I was impressed by the way Newcastle came from 2-0 down to get a point against West Brom on Tuesday – especially because the Magpies had lost their previous four games.
“Rafa Benitez’s side will feel like they won that game, but following that by getting something at Stamford Bridge will be a huge ask.
“Chelsea did not play well against Swansea on Wednesday but they still got the win in the end, against a side who defend in numbers.
“I think they will do the same on Saturday too.
“Mark Lawrenson Prediction: Chelsea 2 Newcastle 0.”
Comedian Nish Kumar:
“Having watched Newcastle against Manchester United at Old Trafford last weekend, I think they will give a good account of themselves and it will be tight.
“But I still think Chelsea are going to have too much: Chelsea 2 Newcastle 1.”
