After going a goal down, even Manchester United fans were mostly happy after coming back to win 4-1.

In their post-match comments (read below) there was predictably much said about Paul Pogba.

The Frenchman’s return coinciding with the return of goals and entertainment to Old Trafford.

Newcastle played a part in that as Rafa Benitez set Newcastle up to have a bit of a go at the hosts, getting numbers up the pitch when having the chance to attack in the first 30/35 minutes.

Failure to take more than the one chance and some slack passing creeping in, meant the Magpies played a major role in the game being more open than many would have expected.

Nice to see below that Manchester United fans haven’t forgotten Rafa Benitez, who clearly pushed buttons for plenty of them over the years…

Manchester United fans comment via their top Red Cafe message board:

‘Easy game made hard due to the first goal, up to the next.’

‘Best team display of the season, for me.

Liked it.

Hope it’s a sign of things to come.’

‘A game of two halves. We were brilliant in the second.’

‘4-1, not 4-0… disgraceful.’

‘Forgettable first half, much better in the second. Pogba was missed.

Hopefully we keep playing Lukaku, Martial and Rashford together.’

‘Awful 30 minutes in the first half and things looked pretty dire coming off the previous performances pre international break. Midfield and full backs in particular just not functioning properly.

Couple of goals resulted in a pretty obvious confidence lift and suddenly things looked a lot better.

Pogba looked quality in his moments. Genuinely looks too good for this current United side in flashes. Loved Lukaku’s smash to end the run without a goal and of course Ibra coming back was great to see.

2nd half saved it basically. Job done.’

‘Sat in a pub in Liverpool city center watching the game, and listening to the jeers when Newcastle scored, then more laughter at our failed attempts. Funny watching people leave after Pogba scored the third. Very satisfying.’

‘We all know how much Rafa likes his ‘facts’. Here’s one for him: Manchester United 4-1 Newcastle United.’

‘is it just me or I don’t hate the guy as I used too. Maybe it’s cause we beat him.’

‘Because he is no threat whatsoever maybe?’

‘Maybe that too. Or that he’s not a scouser anymore.

But they’re solid midtable team now.’

‘Rafa complaining about the squad price at every given opportunity in the post-match interview.’

‘We all know what you like to do when you’re given money:

  1. Buy a burger
  2. Try and sell Xabi Alonso to fund a purchase for Gareth Barry
  3. Ryan Babel, Josemi, Nunez, Bellamy, Pennant, Kromkamp, Glen the son of John (Copyright P), Alberto Aquilani, Robbie Keane, Albert Riera, Dossena, Degen, Momo Sissoko, Squirtle, Voronin, Yossi Benayoun, El Zhar, Morientes

He’s not to be trusted with money.’

‘What did he say?’

‘Something like: “They won because they spend ton of money, and they played better than us, because of the spent money, and they scored more because of the money they spend. I was hoping to go to HT with a draw, but didn’t happen, because they spend lot of money. I like to spend money, but since I’m not manager at United, I can’t spend. But, I will bitch and moan about United’s money. Ooooh, I wish I can do that, you know, spending money”… (quietly talking to himself) “like they do…”

‘I think Rafa’s comment about the money was more towards his own board.

What he said was that United spent a lot of money to buy quality players and when one on one situations happens the quality players are much better.

So basically his players do not have the quality of the United players because United spent a lot of money to get those kinds of quality players.’

‘He messed up in Liverpool in last two seasons, so from there goes the reputation, but when you look at it overall he’s not that bad at all.

For example in Napoli, he did a great job. Mertens, Koulibaly, Jorginho, Albiol, Callejon, Ghoulam. That’s practically more than half of the first team for Sarri today. Higuain also who they sold for huge profit.

Mind you, it was a great pleasure seeing Rafa trashed yesterday. That will never change.’

‘As someone said I actually think he is having a big dig at the Newcastle board rather than us. The interview on they broadcast on Talksport he just said we have better players than them. To be fair to get the better players you have to pay for them.’

‘Great result considering we went a goal down early on. I watched Gayle’s goal numerous times and whilst Lindelof got a lot of stick for his slip, some fault has also got to go to Matic and Pogba for not helping the defence.

Four Newcastle players flooded into the box leaving a 2v4 situation. Matic especially should of done more to stop the shot.

I won’t get too carried away because it was a game we simply expected and had to win. Unfortunately I think City will be incredibly difficult to catch now (crazy as it’s only November)’

‘Hey, I’d love them to play every week but there is not a chance of Jose doing that.

It was a great game today and I loved our attacking play but we made Newcastle look like a top attacking team in the first half. Getting the balance right is the difficult thing.’

‘Happy to see the back of the Henrikh, should have been benched long while ago.

Thrilled for Lukaku and everyone stepped up in the second half, Newcastle stood no chance.’

‘Thought we was great yesterday and I enjoyed the match very much.

I loved how we approached the game after going a goal behind. We seemed to go at them as though it was the final minutes, which was good to see and something that imo has been missing over recent years.’

‘Looked a hell of a lot better with Pogba in. Neville said on MOTD he gives the whole team more character when he plays and I think that’s a very good point.

We looked a little shaky at the back and as is often the case, Mata only came into the game when there was more space and Newcastle were beaten, but good to see a decent performance.

Don’t think we should be getting carried away.’

‘Another rubbish performance from the lads masked by goals. Pogba back in the team and we still look bereft of creativity. We will never accomplish anything under this negative manager.’

‘Watching the goals again, I liked the way we didn’t even celebrate the equalizing goal, as if the players were saying to themselves “good but that’s not enough, get the ball back ASAP as we must win”. Great character and responsibility from the team that we missed a lot post SAF years.’

Team spend of Manchester United vs Team spend of Newcastle United?
When we have had £300m spent on our side then the comparisons might be fair. Pogba cost nearly double our whole side, end of . .

Same Division….. different league….. failure to them is only buying the league cup.

They have bought every trophy for forty years. its a shame football clubs have to do their best compete with the global capital and retail unit that is the Old Trafford (so-called) Club.

Aye and you wonder how many fans we’d have with 50-50 scarves turning up at SJP every week ? I have more in common with FC United than Los Galacticos of Newton Heath

So the Mancs spent £550m in 27 years under SAF. As soon as he fkd off they became the Chequebook Charlies spending almost £600m in four years. Yet the Essex based fans have forgotten how shlte they were in 2014.

I wouldnt want to buy the league, I’ll just let the two of them fight it out until one of them eventually fails – which side of Manchester will it be ?

Man Utd fans I find are very often (and I lived there for many years so have a large sample to base this on) bizarrely upset by how hated they are . They pretend it doesn’t matter but every game they sing songs about how hated they are and how they don’t care – perhaps protesting too much?

No one hates them as much any more because inevitably it’s Chelsea or Man City that win the league, apart from the Leicester anomaly.

Imagine if we had 20 years dominating football after our major rivals (Liverpool for Man U of course ) had dominated and mocking our bitter neighbours mercilessly, only for those neighbours to get new owners and do everything better than they do it…we’d be mortified !

Are they still called Manchester United football club or the global brand formally called Manchester united football club,

Its a company registered in the caribbean….. a tax dodger.

The cost of the entire Newcastle eleven that started on Saturday was £72m! Manure had two players in Pogba and Lakaku that each cost more than the value of the opposition team in the same league!

The only table Newcastle are close to Man U, is the debt owed! Both clubs are in the top five! Makes you think!
