Manchester United fans aren’t happy, nothing new there.
Despite second place in the Premier League, the promise of the early games has seemingly long disappeared.
The first seven PL games saw Man Utd score 21 goals as they won six and drew one, matching Man City all the way.
However, defeat at Huddersfield and only one win and two goals in their last four league games, appears to have burst the balloon.
As well as more grumblings about Mourinho’s tactics/style of play, there also appears to be too much reliance on individuals such as Paul Pogba.
As for Newcastle, Manchester United fans appear to generally have a grudging respect for Rafa Benitez and are praying for an early goal to open up Saturday’s opposition.
Manchester United fans comment on Newcastle match via their top Red Cafe message board:
‘Newcastle have the 5th best defensive record in the league thus far (have conceded the same number of goals as Chelsea).
Benitez may be a bit of a clown, but he knows how to set up a side defensively.’
‘So it’s setting up to be a bore draw then?’
‘When Fellaini is one of your better players, that tells you all you need to know about the quality of your squad..!!’
‘Key is to score early, at least in the first half. Newcastle will park the bus.’
‘Imagine the tiring Newcastle side around the 75min, look over at the changes being made and Zlatan and Pogba are about to come on.’
‘Fellaini is an average player who shouldn’t be playing and we’ll never win the league with him as part of our midfield in my view.’
‘Let’s not let Rafa get the better of us please.’
‘Turning over Rafa’s team would be a good remedy I suppose.’
‘They’re actually decent defensively. But doubt they will cause us too many problems. We need a result big time now.’
Man United will win btw.’
‘Remember the times when we let the horses loose and battered teams? Them were the days.’
‘Newcastle let me down for £300 on an accumulator, at home to 19th placed Bournemouth.. hope we smash them.’
‘I have a feeling this will be the game United will kick start again. Pogba will be back and that means creativity. Think we will play a similar team to the one we seen at West ham. Expect Lukaku to get better service and the goals to come back. Death to international football.’
‘Newcastle wont be a pushover IMO, I think this is the game that will finally see Mkhi dropped.’
‘Rafa teams don’t get rolled over that easily. 1-0 or 2-0 will be a good result.
Lascelles (ankle injury) missing this game will be a boon for us. If we contain Ritchie it should be smooth sailing.’
‘We’ve been rubbish for a while since the last break, but we’ve looked awful in all the games we’ve played first thing after a break.’
‘We either continue the trail we started to blaze at the beginning of the season against the smaller clubs (not that Newcastle are exactly small), or we stay in our half with shaking legs and struggle to nick a 1-0 win.
Pogba coming back would make me believe it’ll be comfortable, without him I expect another awkward watch. It’s nice we have such a big star that single-handedly changes my expected outcome, but by god it makes it rubbish when he’s injured.’
‘Went on a bit of a run around this time last season.
Hopefully it’s the same.
A good win against Newcastle is a good start.’
‘Think we need to make a statement here. Need to get a few goals to settle the nerves.’
‘Have to start off quickly with pace, power and aggression.’
‘I’ve watched Newcastle a few times this season. Don’t think they can hurt us much and struggle badly in front of goal. We will win this one fairly easily with a 2 goal cushion, I suspect.’
‘We need to play with a bit of confidence against Newcastle and hopefully get an early goal, take the game to them from the very first whistle.
If we are feeling sorry for ourselves after the recent run of games, I can see this becoming a very nervous performance and Newcastle being able to frustrate for a draw.’
‘For me it’s not Southgate problem (Phil Jones injured on international duty – Mourinho not happy), the main problem is Jones himself, I mean that’s him, always injured and it was always going to happen, unfortunately the guy is made from glass literally.’
‘Exactly. Stones and Maguire both played yet Jones has to be the one to get injured. Southgate is not to blame. You need your best defenders to build an understanding before a major tournament and every game helps in that regard friendly or not.’
‘2-0 to United and although we’ve been playing really badly the hysteria will start to die down again until our next terrible performace away from home to a smaller team and rinse and repeat.
I’m still not sure the mentality is totally right or we’ve got the right mix of players to consistently play good football but I still think we will go on to finish second this season with what we do have.’
‘Defending is not going to be a problem for this game. Bailly and Smalling will do.
We need to get our attack to click. Would go with Fellaini and Mata instead of Herrera and Mkhi. This should be a must-win for us to get the momentum going.’
