Juan Mata is a player who invariably plays well against Newcastle and is looking forward to facing the Magpies once again on Saturday.
The midfielder says he was ‘lucky’ to work with Rafa Benitez in the past and together in their brief time at Chelsea together, the pair won the Europa League and qualified for the Champions League after Rafa came in during the 2012/13 season.
Writing on his personal blog, Juan Mata says that despite being newly promoted, Newcastle ‘are still a big club’.
The Manchester United player is looking forward to the whole Spanish experience, because as well as Rafa Benitez, Newcastle also have Jose;u, Javier Manquillo, Ayoze Perez, Jesus Gamez, and Mikel Merino.
In April 2014, Juan Mata scored twice as Man Utd hammered Newcastle 4-0.
He also got on the scoresheet in February 2013 when Chelsea lost a thrilling 3-2 game at St James Park, a certain Moussa Sissoko looking like a superstar when making his home debut for Newcastle.
This season, Mata has started seven Premier League matches for Manchester United, his last one being the 2-1 defeat at Huddersfield.
Juan Mata writing on his own personal blog:
I am writing to you this week after having disconnected from football for a few days.
As you know, we are in another international break so there is rest at club level and I have taken the opportunity to travel, to see my family and rest.
Today, we return to training with the mindset on the Newcastle match and the importance of the months that lie ahead, as they come loaded with games, especially during the Christmas period.
These are moments in which good form of the team can be decisive for the second part of the season.
Returning now to our game against Newcastle on Saturday, everyone knows they are newly-promoted but they are still a big club with several Spanish players.
Among them Rafa Benitez, a manager with whom I was lucky to work with in the past. It will be nice to see him again.
We hope to play a good game that allows us to get all three points, and continue showing that strength in Old Trafford.
I hope everyone has a good week.
