For all Newcastle fans this season, it is clear how much we are screaming out for new striking options,

Quinn, Cole, Ferdinand, Shearer, all set the standards for fans to bench mark against.

Unfortunately, despite being prolific for Real Madrid reserves Joselu has really struggled in the English Premier League.

The Spaniard has missed a hatful of chances during his run in the team, with the miskick against Watford being my final straw.

Ending up with the conclusion that the lad is the new jigsaw…goes to pieces in the box.

I appreciate that we simply don’t have the funds to break the record purchase of Michael Owen, which is what is required for a potentially prolific scorer.

However, persisting with Joselu is not the answer.

Yes the lad can hold the ball up at times and is half decent in the air – but does he offer anything more than Daryl Murphy would have had, if we’d we kept him in the summer? A vastly experienced international striker who was popular with the fans.

As much as I think Mitrovic is a poor Billy Whitehurst….

I do wonder if our great manager is about to call on him, as we are that desperate.

Would not start with Mitro but bring him on for last thirty minutes would start with Gayle who can score goals Joselu needs to be rested to take the pressure off him
for a few games now that Gayle looks sharp.

” … a poor Billy Whitehurst …” Bit of click-baiting going on there. Jonathan, if you`re the Great Gibbo`s grandson or something you`ve got a long way to go to keep up the family tradition!

    • Rich Lawson

Gibbo ! loved him, don’t know why fans turned on him toward the end ?

      • Wor Lass

He just became labelled a regime apologist. Shame, really, because he`s black and white through and through.

  • Whitehurst

    Nowt wrong with Billy like!!

  • Leazes Ender

Whoopee….. weve swapped a tasteless pudding for an insignificant trifle.

    • Rich Lawson

Normal VIP ticket fare ! Better off getting a burger or dog from the van and saving up the money for a programme.

  • 1957

Did you really see Billy Whitehurst?

    • Rich Lawson

Only in a pub down the rd,he didn’t stand out enough on the park !

    • Leicester Mag

      Exactly! Stupid comparison.

    • Albert Stubbins

Yes lots of times. Seen him score a few corkers as well. Wasn’t the most mobile and would describe him as at best agricultural. That’s why he’s compared to mitro. Simples.

Definite improvement in Mitro’s game on Tuesday.
Billy no mates after giving the finger.

Where will the money come from ? Get Ings Burnley or Islami Leicester on loan, surely their wages can’t be that much coming from those teams ?

    • glassjawsh-got-banned

      Ings plays for Liverpool

also don’t buy or loan Ings

      • Rich Lawson

He does doesn’t he,thanks for that.

      • Albert Stubbins

He represents them he rarely if ever actually plays lol

  • Garry Sharp

I heard a rumour that Mitrovic isn’t getting game time because he can’t understand Rafa’s tactics. Rafa wants to play tactical football and drill set pieces and Mitro doesn’t get it. Apparently… maybe.. just a rumour. Would explain why Joselu’s getting game time over him, there must be something he sees in Joselu over Mitro in the training ground that we’re not seeing.

  • glassjawsh-got-banned

Unless Mitro is paired with another striker, he’s shown to be ineffective. Against a side not in the top 6 he should play alongside/in front of Gayle. But with Chelsea, I’d be shocked if Rafa didn’t revert to 4-2-3-1 in order to shore up the defense and hope/pray for something on the break. My best guess is Gayle starts, Joselu is on the bench and Mitro is left off the team sheet entirely.

I think fans are getting carried away with their expectations of Mitro. i for one love his attitude and passion, however an answer to all our goal scoring issues he most certainly is not. He offers something different and is probably worth a go just to try and freshen things up, but I personally doubt his effectiveness in Rafa’s system and i’m not sure he offers the right set of skills to be able to play the role required of him. I think if Mitro starts then he needs Gayle alongside him, if Rafa wants one up top and pack the midfield then I doubt Mitro can do this role.

    • Mark Potter

Of course he can, it’s exactly what he does better than any of the other forwards we have – he holds the ball up. This allows midfield players to get up to and beyond him. He contributes in the overall attacking of the team, something which Joselu and Gayle are clearly incapable. Ball played up to Joselu in the middle of the park, into feet, chest or head, possession turned over, other team back on the attack. Mitro won’t dribble past defenders, nor often beat the offside trap (though for a cart horse he’s done it more often than Gayle and Joselu, despite his limited minutes), but he’ll allow the wingers to race forward, without worrying they will be immediately caught out of position. Defenders trying to tackle him give away free kicks, throw ins and corners. Then you get the team in the box, and we can actually score from set pieces. We probably scored more already than in a month of Sundays under Pardew. And if Mitro gets the odd goal that’s a big bonus. We know he can score if we get the ball in the box for him often enough. We have no idea if Joselu will ever score a goal that’s not a fluke.

Poor Billy whitehurst.. Lmfao you have obviously never seen Billy play.

  • Albert Stubbins

I made the same comment a year ago!! Lol. Bit unfair on big Billy I think. I would love for mitro to make me eat my words though as Newcastle is much more important to us all than being right.
