The CIES Football Observatory Weekly Post have published a list of the current worth of the highest value European club squads.

This is all clubs who play in the ‘big-5 leagues’, which are Premier League, Bundesliga, La Liga, Ligue 1, and Serie A.

Transfer values are estimated on the basis of the algorithm exclusively developed by the CIES Football Observatory research team.

The figures are published in euros and that has made the aggregated value of current squad members at four clubs, over the one billion (euros) mark.

Those four clubs being Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Barcelona and Chelsea.

With five of the top seven spots filled by Premier League clubs, it shows the increasing dominance as money talks.

Newcastle United are 38th in the list and 12th highest Premier League club, although interesting to see that Saturday’s opponents are higher in 34th position.

The Newcastle squad is valued at €197m (£174m) with Florian Lejeune rated the most valuable individual at €17m (£15m), NUFC having bought him for £8.8m which was his release clause figure.

Amongst the interesting stats, is that Florian Thauvin is now rated at €50m (£44m) after his form and return to the French squad after leaving Newcastle.

Once again showing the dominance financially of Premier League clubs, all 20 are ranked in the top 56, with Huddersfield having the lowest estimated squad value of  €126m (£111m).
