Goals conceded with and without Jamaal Lascelles this season – Stunning stats

How important is Jamaal Lascelles to this Newcastle team?

Sometimes it is only when somebody is missing that you get a decent idea of their worth.

After 13 Premier League matches (and one in the League Cup), interesting to compare what’s happened when he has and hasn’t been on the pitch.

First of all, the four matches where he hasn’t been on the pitch for the final whistle, Newcastle have lost all four.

As for goals scored, this is where it gets quite savage in terms of the difference between when he has and hasn’t been there.

In the 948 minutes Jamaal Lascelles has played this season Newcastle have conceded nine  goals Рone every 105 minutes.

In the 342 minutes Newcastle have played without the captain, they have conceded eleven goals –¬† one every 31 minutes (one every 28 minutes in Premier League games only)

(Thanks to Chris Holt for the stats inspiration)

Newcastle 0 Watford 3 (Missing through injury)

Man Utd 4 Newcastle 1 (missing through injury)

Newcastle United 0 Bournemouth 1 (went off after 55 minutes, score was 0-0)

Burnley 1 Newcastle 0 (Played full game)

Newcastle 1 Crystal Palace 0 (Played full game)

Southampton 2 Newcastle 2 (Played full game)

Newcastle 1 Liverpool 1 (Played full game)

Brighton 1 Newcastle 1=0 (Played full game)

Newcastle 2 Stoke 1 (Played full game)

Swansea 0 Newcastle 1 (Played full game)

Newcastle 3 West Ham 0 (Played full game)

(After extra-time) Newcastle 2 Nottingham Forest 3 (Lascelles rested)

Huddersfield 1 Newcastle 0 (Played full game)

Newcastle 0 Tottenham 2 (Came on at 0-0 after seven minutes)

Obviously this is only a smallish sample of matches but the message definitely appears to be, Newcastle are much better with Jamaal Lascelles on the pitch.
