I thought Joselu was worth more. His winning of the ball, hold up and passing was good and he never gave the ball away. Maybe he should be played midfield?

    • Paul Patterson

Yeah, he could cause far more damage that way . .

    • Lejeune did far better as a holding midfielder than both Hayden and Shelvey at times!

You must have watched a different game than i did.

Its hard rating the strikers when they are given such poor service from the rest of the team, they are getting nothing in the box to attack

    • Exactly! For me, Yeldin, Manquillo and Ritchie’s delivery inside the box is shocking! Shelvey is also struggling with his passing. I’d give Barlaser a chance and we kinda need Armstrong back.

  • We have to face facts, our squad does not have the quality going forward ajd creating chances. Our defence is solid, but we create far too few chances, and the final ball/finishing is lacking quality. Without Merino we look poor. We need competition for Ritchie, Atsu, Perez and both fulback’s delivery is beyond poor. I now see Rafa’s big need for proper wide players amd this should be our number one priority in January. Murphy is shockingly bad! Can’t take on players who are already tired! We lack quality on the bench and on the field.

I dont think 5mins at the end of a game is doing murphy any favours. Rafa keeps saying he is pushing atsu and ritchie to play better but its the opposite they know they are going to play the next game

      • He can’t even take on defenders who have actually played 80 minutes and hardly fails to track back, even fresh as a sub. Prem is like this, you get 10-15 mins to shine, but all I see from Murphy is a Championship Player at best.

We are finding our level. Again the club has failed to speculate to accumulate. Perez, Joselu, Atsu and Hayden are Championship standard at best. Shelvey the only creative spark. Diame should have been on after 60, probably for rabbit in the headlights Hayden who just can’t hold a ball or spot a pass. It wasn’t about “movement” as Rafa assessed bringing woeful Perez on, it was about keeping the ball. Joselu and Gayle were doing ok with no possession in the second half– Diame would have helped that. Rafa to blame entirely for once. I suspect that Murphy has been over-coached, and is totally confused about what to do with or without the ball. Poor lad looked worse than a pub player when he came on. Great manager but only human.
