Exclusive reports Newcastle interest in Mallik Wilks
An exclusive on Thursday morning has reported Newcastle United interest in signing Mallik Wilks.
The young striker is said to have been watched by Newcastle representatives this season.
Only 18, Mallik Wilks made his debut or Leeds United last season, but has been allowed to go out on loan this season to get time on the pitch.
In 15 appearances (all competitions), the teenager has scored three goals for Accrington Stanley.
However, if there is substance to the exclusive from Football Insider, he would be definitely one for the future rather than a play to help in the short-term.
His two league goals have come in his 12 appearances off the bench in League Two, not even holding down a place at that level for the time being.
Leeds continually produce talented players through the ranks and it is more than possible that Mallik Wilks could prove to be the latest.
Since dropping out of the Premier League, Leeds have found it impossible to keep hold of players they have produced and as well as Newcastle, Everton are also said to be watching the 18 year old.
In addition, Wilks’ former manager Garry Monk is also reported to be keen on reuniting with the young player at Middlesbrough.
The forward is under contract at Leeds until June 2019.
It has all gone a little quiet at Newcastle when it comes to recruiting young players, with Rafa Benitez having brought in a procession of young players to the Academy/reserves throughout last season, mainly from abroad.
The summer saw a couple of young recruits arrive after being released by Premier League clubs but overall the recruitment drive at youth level appears to have tailed off.
