  • frigopie76

Wow.. Merino so good, he’s in the team AND on the bench!

  • MichaelMaximusMoose

Bad enough Hoss in the team now add Slomo, Jesus

  • fistsofsteel2

    Get Perez, and Mitrovich on.
    Get Joselu and Gayle off.

  • Mike Adam

Unbelievable, I would love to know what Horselu, Manquillo, SloMo, and Elliot do in practice that is so much better than the others who play in their positions! Oh yeah, they play worse in matches when points are on the line! No excuse not to try other players with the scoring record on this team! Horselu has scored 35 goals in 7/8 seasons, absolutely sickening to see him start again!

  • 5floorshigh

hoss, murphy and slomo all starting is pathetic !

    • Phil Yare

exactly – beat before the whistle goes!

  • 1957

It was predictable. If anyone else was manager at NUFC and put out this team you would fear for his future at the club. We know two things for sure, Hoss and SloMo aren’t up to it, we don’t know for sure how Mitrovich and say Mbemba, holding midfield is his international position, would fare.

For me the latter two should be playing, it would be worth the risk.

For a fleeting moment I thought about setting off for home now…

  • MichaelMaximusMoose

Not a bad game apart from being 1 down, Murphy`s Newcastle best player at the moment

  • Leicester Mag

Losing 1-0 I’d like to think this will be a kick up the backside but with this team? We are the epitomy of a relegation side, can’t score and now can’t defend 😕

  • Dillon Tovak

None of our players, bar maybe Yedlin going forward, are showing any sort of form.
Ritchie seems frustrated and Shelveys way off the boil.
Joselu really just isn’t a professional footballer is he? Did he win a competition?

    • MichaelMaximusMoose

      Doomed

  • MichaelMaximusMoose

2 down, we won`t come back from that. 1 win in 8 desperate times

  • Leicester Mag

Top manager or not any other trucka picking this side would have been hung drawn and quartered. PATHETIC

  • HarryHype59

Oh dear 0-2! I wonder if Staveley will walk away and wait until the Fatman begs PCP to buy the club at £300m?

    • Leicester Mag

£299M for the fans and potential and quid for half this team Jeese we’ve signed some sheight

    • nufcslf

Or she can heap on the relegation clause. Doesn’t look like it’s far off. Not surprised by the result so far, had a sickening feeling this was never going to be a straight forward home win.

  • Danimal

I know it’s a poor excuse but…another of these refs who adds more time if there is an attack going on. Cheers.

  • MichaelMaximusMoose

Tine to call in the Cavalry, Mikel & Mitro

    • Leicester Mag

Well time to get the fookin hos off

      • MichaelMaximusMoose

its hard to bare watching him

  • Phil Yare

who on planet earth would have started joselu, murphy, diame and manquillo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! rafa has to take a chunk of the blame for playing them unless hes been threatened to play them at gunpoint!

    • 1957

All his players, on that basis they get in regardless of their ability.

      • Phil Yare

you think he’s under pressure to play them being his signings? that’s the only thing i can think of maybe?

        • MichaelMaximusMoose

          yes

        • 1957

No I just think he won’t play the likes of Mitrovic and Mbemba in case they perform well and he then can’t justify forcing them out in January so he can fill the squad with more journeyman.

          • Phil Yare

its got to be that mate cos if 52000 can see it how the hell can rafa not see it

  • 1957

Unless Benitez gets at least Hoss off at half time, I’m off down the stairs from level 7 and home. This has been pathetic, yes Ashley limited spending in the summer but Benitez slavish devotion to certain underperforming (or is that unable to perform) players is making the situation worse

  • Phil Yare

you can’t keep playing weak players and expect results!

    • 1957

      Apparently Benitez does

      • Phil Yare

are we cursed?? dalglish for instance – bought shearer, sutton etc for blackburn then with us decided that des hamilton was better than david ginola

        • 1957

At least when Kenny was restricted budget wise by Hall and Shepherd he didn’t whinge about, he just got on with it, I’m sick of hearing how disappointed Benitez is.

          • Jezza

There’s no point in turning on Rafa. He’s got every right to complain after Fatso pulled the rug from under him in three successive transfer windows. If it wasn’t for Rafa we would already be bottom of the league.

          • Kneebotherm8

If it wasn’t for Rafa we’d still be in the championship,or worse.

    • Jezza

Trouble is we’ve got nothing but weak players. Ten years of Fatso’s profiteering at the expense of the playing squad has left us in this position. There is not one player in our squad who would fetch £10 million even in today’s inflated transfer market.

  • MichaelMaximusMoose

Rafa needs to sort himself out with his team selection, we are only 4 points from
    a relegation place

    • Phil Yare

man city coming up……….may as well minus 6 from our goal difference now.

      • Leicester Mag

This rate Man C will declare at half time.

        • 1957

They’ll score more than six against this shower

          • Peaky Magpie

They’ll probably just send their best 5 a side team out so they’re fresh for the CL.

          • Jezza

            And still thrash us.

    • Jezza

Before long we’ll be wishing we were four points off a relegation place.

  • Peaky Magpie

With the players starting, the way they are playing and the fixtures coming up bottom 3 by New Year if we are not careful ! Who’s to blame ? Yes Fat C**t !!!

  • Leicester Mag

Einstein definition of insanity- doing the same thing again and again and expecting a different outcome. You cannot win Premier League matches with a team like this with players like Joselu/Diame

    • Phil Yare

has diame ever been good? he had one good game v birmingham (the worst team to play at sjp for a decade) , and he thinks hes equipped to tear up the premier league

    • Jezza

You’d be lucky to win a Conference match with Joselu/Diame.

      • Peaky Magpie

I wouldn’t even pick them for My Subbuteo team !

  • Dillon Tovak

Lejeune just had a Bramble moment.

  • nufcslf

You can stand by the team for as long as you want, but 10 years of Cashley has hurt the football on the pitch as well. Please Amanda, make him go away.

  • Phil Yare

Richarlison – another player that we couldn’t afford. apparently

    • Phil Yare

      Richarlison £11.2m
      Murphy £12.5m

      good business

      • HarryHype59

In truth we had a poor summer window!

        • Jezza

We’d have needed to sign a couple of decent players to have reached the heights of a poor summer window.

  • Phil Yare

joselu makes a bucket of sheepslop look dangerous

    • Jezza

What’s the difference between Joselu and a bucket of sheepslop?

      The bucket.

  • Peaky Magpie

Totally totally rudderless,no leaders no quality.Relegation odds will be slashed tonight regardless of what happens in January.

    • Jezza

Four defeats on the trot, one proper goal in five games. On that form, relegation is a certainty.

  • Dave Mitchison

Rafa just swallow your pride and put Mitro on .Please.

    • Dillon Tovak

I think we should just play 10 defenders every game and hope 0-0 draws every game will keep us up.

    • Phil Yare

too late anyway now mate. confidence has been destroyed. poor lad wouldn’t get a kick and rafa would justify that by not starting him next game either

    • 1957

He might get the last ten minutes and Benitez can claim Aleksandr didn’t do anything to change the game..

  • Leicester Mag

    3-0 words fail

    • Phil Yare

more likely finish 0-5 than us get anything

  • Dillon Tovak

If there was no takeover I guarantee Rafa would walk away after this game. Our players are just rubbish.

    • HarryHype59

Problem is he has signed half of them!

    • 1957

Anybody else would be fearing the sack after this…

      • Jezza

True but rarely has a manager been so badly let down the way Rafa has been by Fatso. Rafa is not the one to blame for this mess.

  • Peaky Magpie

I said on here last week Rafa’s stubborness could cost us dearly. His selections, tactics and substitutions baffles me at times ???

    • Biggs

      Ashley to blame not rafa

      • Leicester Mag

Agree in the main but his stubborn faith in several players beggars belief. Not blameless

      • Peaky Magpie

Without a doubt, said that further down.He has to start Mitro,Aarons & Merino v WBA who last I heard were winning at Spurs.

    • Phil Yare

totally agree. i said a month ago if we don’t change personnel and tactics we are going to be bottom by xmas

  • Dave Mitchison

Rafa’s has to take responsibility for this. He is putting that bag of kak team onto the pitch week after week

    • Biggs

He has kak players to choose from, that’s the fat man not rafa

      • Dave Mitchison

He has better players in the squad than the 11 starting.

        • Biggs

Who? Seriously, we don’t have 11 premier league quality players. We are arguing about who is better Perez or Diame, Mitrovic or Joselu, Murphy or ‘we don’t even have another winger’ get a grip, having Rafa is the only thing that can keep us up this season.

          • Dave Mitchison

Woodman or Darlow for Elliott. Yes Mitro for Joselu. Mbemba for Manquillo or Diame. Aaron’s for Murphy. None of them are premiere league quality but yes in my opinion he has better options than those who started.

          • 1957

Absolutely, playing the same underperforming players week in week out is negligent on Benitez part. The options aren’t good but better than what’s on the pitch

      • HarryHype59

Whilst he his handicapped by the Fatmans penny pinching, he has undoubtedly bought some utter dross!

        • Biggs

Only coz the Farman wouldn’t back him to sign better players.

        • Jezza

True but when Fatso gave him a £5 million budget for a striker he was never going to get the next Alan Shearer for that kind of money.

          • HarryHype59

Fair point, but are Murphy, Manky, Hoss and Lejeurne any better than those already here!

          • Jezza

Clearly not but again they were all Rafa could afford with the pittance of a transfer budget he was given.

  • Biggs

    Joselu is appalling

    • Phil Yare

apparently he works really hard (i was corrected the other week by some very intelligent gentleman on here)

      • Biggs

He is only in the team because Mitrovic and gayle are as bad if not worse. Not one of those is premier league quality

        • Dillon Tovak

It’s true. People forget we were relegated when we actually played Mitro. We have 3 third choice strikers.

          • Biggs

I agree, gayle is second choice at best, hence Rafa was prepared to sell him to get in a better player. Let’s not forget the fat man only gave Rafa £11 million to play with, what was he going to do with that?

          • steve

A 21 year old Mitrovic scored 9 goals in his first Premier League season despite being in a relegated team

          • 1957

Will Hoss get 9 goals…I don’t think so

          • Peaky Magpie

In his career ??? Probably not.

          • Jezza

Those three would be third choice at Blyth Spartans.

          • Marveauxless

It’s a team game, you can’t say Mitrovic isn’t good enough because we got relegated. Andy Johnson, Di Canio, Defoe (twice), Charlie Austin, Juninho, Bellamy and Viduka all got relegated after scoring double figures in the league whilst Aliadiere and Balotelli both have Premier League winners’ medals.
The fact is he’s far more prolific that Joselu and looked more dangerous in 21 minutes today than Joselu has in the last 11 games

        • Phil Yare

they can’t be worse. they’d have to score a brace of own goals every game to be worse than him.
at least gayle can convert rather than kick his own foot

      • Jezza

Bringing back a 36 year old Shola would be a better option than Joselu.

        • Leicester Mag

Scary thing is you may be right

        • 1957

Shola is more likely to score

        • Peaky Magpie

Said on here the other week we should have signed Crouch for £5m or at least give Big Daryl a crack.

  • Phil Yare

we saw this not weeks ago……but a couple of months ago. we are waiting for something to happen that is not going to happen

    • Jezza

Spot on. This has been on the cards ever since the transfer window closed. Our first team squad was never going to be good enough for this division. We needed substantial investment in the summer but Fatso preferred to pocket all the television money along with last year’s £40 million transfer profit.

  • Danimal

Couldn’t believe no subs at half time. Now I understand the master plan, wait til 3-0. That’ll work.

    • Jezza

The trouble is that the vast majority of our players just aren’t good enough for this division. We’ve got duffers on the pitch and more duffers on the bench. Bringing on subs isn’t going to make any difference.

      • Damon Horner

It’s looking very clear now many of this squad are not up to standard.

  • Phil Yare

hopefully stavely will come in and we can spend £300 million on berahino

    • MichaelMaximusMoose

After today she`s more likely to pull the plug

      • Phil Yare

ashley has let this club rot. for every £10,000,000 man city have invested he has invested about 2 pence.
there is no end to the ashley reign as long as his money comes in

        • Jezza

Agreed, that fat greedy parasite will be bleeding this club dry for years to come.

      • HarryHype59

Or wait until get we relegated again and offer Ashley £80m! The same happened to Lerner at Villa!

        • Biggs

That’s maybe the only good thing to come out of this, if fat chunt doesn’t sell now and Rafa leaves, it could cost him a fortune

          • nufcslf

That is the only positive. Now that an offer has been made and results are going wrong, he really isn’t in a position to demand stupid money. If buyer’s and his manager walk, his play thing losses massive value and relegation is a certainty.

    • Biggs

We are going to need two or three attackers, a winger, another defensive midfielder, a keeper and a left back minimum.

      • Phil Yare

trust me its not happening. its more likely we be in the championship next season with mike ashley the owner

        • Biggs

If I was putting a bet on, I would go that way too.

        • Jezza

          That is a certainty.

  • 1957

Game lost send on Mitrovic and Merino…says everything about the manager’s mindset

  • Dillon Tovak

Why bring on Perez? Proven failure. Why not roll the dice with Aarons?

    • Biggs

      At 3-0 why even bother.

    • Phil Yare

perez makes john jensen look like a goal machine

  • Leicester Mag

Maybe the Messiah is just a very stubborn boy?

  • nufcslf

I totally agree Rafa had other player’s he should have picked today, certainly couldn’t have done any worse. None of this present squad can feel hard done by if there wholesale changes are made if a new owner comes in. Right now, it almost looks like Rafa feels sorry for the fatman and wants him to stay with recent matches.

  • Biggs

We have had 3 absolute sitters today. Joselu x2 and Mitrovic x1

    • Jezza

Joselu makes Frank Pingel look like Alan Shearer.

      • 1957

He makes Billy Whitehurst look like Cristiano Ronaldo.

        • Peaky Magpie

He makes Rivière look like Aguero !!! Well maybe not !

  • Peaky Magpie

WBA game now 10 times harder than it should have been.

    • Phil Yare

yes hes took joselu, diame and murphy off as a precaution so they’ll be sharp for that encounter

  • Tino o

This is as bad as it gets embarrassing

    • Jezza

This is the stark reality of a net spend of £11.5 million to prepare a Championship squad for the Premiership. Well done Fatso.

      • Danimal

Monkseaton Clarko will be along shortly, to explain why Brighton, Huddersfield and all the rest were able to spend more. When he’s finished reminiscing about football hooliganism.

      • Leicester Mag

Totally agree but Rafa’s dogged persistence with a whole cabal of dead beats is hardly helping

      • TheNutJob

knew this was going to happen as did yourself & a few more on here

      • Peaky Magpie

        Well put Jezza,spot on.

    • 1957

I can only see it getting worse…

  • Sid James

    What a Carry On

    • Leazes Ender

You can say that again Bernard.

  • Mrkgw

Abysmal. We need Rafa but, his selections are bizarre. Joselu is a waste of a shirt and Diame should be nowhere near. A championship return beckons. ASHLEY OUT!

    • 1957

SloMo and Hoss will get new contracs

  • Phil Yare

we have got promoted and won the championship (just) but as we get a MASSIVE cash injection from the premier league we are actually worse than the team that came up

we get tanked off man utd and brighton lose to a single own goal there…….that tells you the difference now between us and brighton

    • Phil Yare

not that any of that money was spent

    • Jezza

The crucial difference between us and Brighton is that they had a net spend of £40 million plus in the summer while ours was a paltry £11.5 million.

  • Tino o

Can’t remember any worse performances under pardew or mclown Rafa needs to bbe looking at himself when making his excuses later

    • 1957

If those two, or Geordie John, were in charge of this team there would be demands they were sacked. They worked under the same owner.

    • Marveauxless

His achievements at Newcastle are pretty much on par with Houghton’s (Winning the Championship before scrapping around in lower mid-table) only he’s had significantly more money to invest.

      • 1957

I sometimes wonder where we would have been if Chris hadn’t been sacked

        • StevieB

He lost his way mate , tactically we were getting done over

          • Phil Yare

thats nonsense mate, the stats prove otherwise

        • Marveauxless

Hughton was no better than Pardew; we certainly wouldn’t have finished 5th under Hughton. The difference is Hughton was sacked before the fans had a chance to turn on him.

      • Jezza

Rafa has had exactly MINUS £28.5 MILLION to invest at this club.

        • Marveauxless

It is better to lose £80 million worth of players and spend £50 million than to lose £30 million worth of players and spend nothing (as Sunderland have shown this season). The former at least gives you the opportunity to replace what you have lost.
That £50 million allowed us to spend £10 million on a proven Championship goalscorer in Dwight Gayle, something neither Hughton nor Sunderland were able to do with their non-existent transfer budgets.

    • Jezza

Yes but Pardew and McClaren had better players to work with as Fatso’s ongoing squad weakening for personal profit project was still a work in progress when they were here.

      • Marveauxless

I would take this squad over the squad in the latter years of Pardew, in his last game against Everton the starting XI included Alnwick, Williamson, Gouffran, Colback and Cissé.
        On the bench we had:
Woodman, Taylor, Santon, Anita, Cabella, Riviere and Armstrong.

Plus we have more squad depth now than at any other point in the last decade

        • Jezza

Pardew had better players than Rafa has got now. We have got no squad depth now, we haven’t even got any strength in the first eleven never mind strength in depth. All we’ve got is sub standard players all the way through. We haven’t got a single player who would fetch £10 million in the transfer market. This is the weakest squad NUFC have had in living memory. Even the squad we had at the bottom on the second division in 91/92 was stronger because we had David Kelly who was a far better striker than anybody we’ve currently got.

          • Marveauxless

14 of the current 25 man squad were signed by Benitez, he has invested poorly and has to take a lot of the blame for the current side. Manquillo, Murphy, Lejeune, Joselu, Hanley, Lazaar, Selz and Diame cost £46 million.
For the same price he could have signed:
Pascal Groß, Harry Maguire, Javier Hernandez, Asmir Begovic and Kenedy (and still have had 2 players for every position.
Pardew’s first team consisted of Krul, Janmaat, Santon, Coloccini, Williamson, Tiote, Cabaye, Sissoko, Gouffran, Gutierrez and Cissé.
I would only take Cabaye, Janmaat and maybe Sissoko for the current team.

          • Jezza

Rafa invested poorly because he was funded poorly.

          • Marveauxless

I’ve just provided you with a list of proven, quality players available for the same price as Benitez’s failed signings but whatever you say, mate. Enjoy your doom mongering

          • Jezza

Doom mongering eh? Where have you been while Newcastle United have lost four games on the trot, scored one proper goal in five and conceded seven in their last two? That is not doom mongering that is reality unlike your nonsense about Rafa being given huge transfer funds by your beloved Ashley.

          • Leazes Ender

Our bench is terrifying……. it terrifies me.

      • Tino o

Not much stronger he can’t be blameless For recent performances because he’s Rafa Benitez

  • TheNutJob

Rafa`s reputation is diminishing game on game, he`s needs to say back me or sack me to Fatso

    • Leicester Mag

Trouble is we’ll be in dire trouble before the window opens Astonishing he stayed in September. This shiitehouse will never back anything other than his own avarice.

      • TheNutJob

the team on Tuesday should make interesting reading

        • 1957

Probably same again with Merino replacing SloMo

          • TheNutJob

that wouldn`t surprise me in the least

  • TheNutJob

WBA next up, chances are Pards will be in the dugout, they got a point at Spurs so that doesn`t look good

  • Phil Yare

half the team needs to be replaced for the next game.

a drastic change in formation wouldn’t harm us either

    otherwise…..bottom by xmas

    • Tino o

I promise you Benitez will play the same old suspects. If we don’t get a takeover before Jan and spend millions were down

      • Phil Yare

        again i agree with that

    • 1957

The team won’t change substantially, we will be in park the bus mode and we will be in the bottom 3 at xmas

      • Phil Yare

        i agree

  • StevieB

Teams have well and truly got our number now, I was worried when I saw Watford the other night v West Ham, I’ll say it again though …….PUT MATT RICHIE NUMBER 10!!!!!

    • Phil Yare

defo agree that richie needs his position adjusted. he needs to be more central and not pinned to the right wing

It’s so simple to see , Benitez must have thought about it, when you’re short on talented players you have to put the ones you do have in hurtful positions. The opposition don’t have to worry us going forward and it is just breeding encouragement to smaller teams to bomb forward at us

Got our number for certain just attack us no need to defend as there is very little chance our forwards are going to score

the wheels are causing havoc on Blackett Street after rolling doon Barrack Rd

Fatso will probably take a hit and sack Rafa, pay his compo and stick 2 fingers up to the fans on his way out of the door.

    Sit Rep (Reality Check)
That was a poor result, (lucky it was not 0-5)
We don’t have a bad team or players, It is just other teams seem to be better than we are (for whatever reason).
We are now 13th in the league, none of the players were hiding and seemed to give their all
We still have one of the best managers in the world
Lets draw a line under today, keep the faith, and do our best against West Brom

They have better players because they spend the money. Simple. Sorry but we are a bad team and getting worse.

      • Leazes Ender

Five million for a no footed striker…. what the hell were they thinking about?

“We don’t have a bad team or players”
As much as I would love that statement to be true, it isn’t!

  • Saul Williams

Staveley’s thinking I am not wasting my money on this. She must be having second thoughts.Jesus! This is to much ! Joselu for god’s sake!

    • HarryHype59

I wouldn’t be surprised if the fat lad is on the phone to Staveley tonight begging PCP to buy the club!

  • Mrkgw

Someone suggested on the Chronicle website that they hear that we will be deducted a probable six pts over this tax fiasco. If thats the case then goodbye Premiership. I wonder if that is the reason behind Amanda Stavelys alleged relegation clause? Seems as though Rafa has had enough.
