Alekasandar Mitrovic is making headlines again.

Last weekend it was Rafa Benitez once again overlooking the striker, Mitro staying on the bench as United lost to Bournemouth.

That made it still no Premier League starts this season and only 30 minutes on the pitch in two brief sub appearances, though he did score against West Ham when coming off the bench.

The former Anderlecht forward having started only one club game this season, the League Cup game against Forest when he scored a decent goal.

Friday lunchtime (UK time) he is once again amongst the goals, Aleksandar Mitrovic playing for Serbia away in China and putting his side two up (watch it below).

Llajic had given Serbia a first half lead and then Mitro swooped on 69 minutes to wrap the win up, the match finishing 2-0 to the visitors.

A decent little bit of movement getting them behind the defender and giving the keeper no chance with the header.

Serbia and Aleksandar Mitrovic now move on to South Korea, who they face on Tuesday in their next friendly.

The goal against China is the striker’s ninth in the last 11 games for his country, including the six he scored to help them qualify for next year’s World Cup finals in Russia.

Enjoy the goal.

Adding more value to his fee…If Rafa doesn’t fancy him then that’s good enough for me.

  • TheNutJob

He`s nee good to us, we haven`t anyone who can cross a ball as good as that

  • BillytheFish

Sell him and bring in Townsend and Zaha from Palace.

    • TheNutJob

      where`s the £50m coming from

    • 1957

Is this the same Zaha who has scored 15 goals in 119 appearances in the PL, he makes 10 in 36 Mitrovic look prolific

      • Albert Stubbins

Saha isn’t a no nine. He’s a winger / inside forward surely? Can play in a 4-2-3-1. Exciting player when he’s not falling about on his ar**. I’d have him in front of Townsend but he’s a player that cannot perform on big stage as proven at man yoo.

  • pedrodelgardo

    Is that international football?

  • Andy Mac

That was a “tap in” but at least he was in the right place eh Joselu ?

    • gallowgate26

Hoselu gets in the right place actually, he’s a natural. He just can’t hit a barn door once he gets there..

  • Peaky Magpie

Mitro will probably go on and get a hatful of goals for a club that wants and appreciates him.

    • Geordiegiants

      In a shyte league yeah.

      • Peaky Magpie

        Probably 👍

  • gallowgate26

Trouble is, there aren’t many ‘made in China’ defenders in the Premier League. Like someone once said… Mitrovic gets better every game he doesn’t play. Best of a bad bunch?

  • Steve Pearce

Yes – Townsend and Saha in January then we will at last have an attack – especially if we offer Palace Gayle. Then we need another striker for Rafa to play 4-4-2 for the rest of the season.

  • Carbine

Mitro suits the traditional Newcastle way of a big powerful No9 up an at em, but sadly not the defensive Raffa way. However there is more success but far less excitement with Raffa, so the fun goes while we wait for another Keegan.

  • Cuh

Cristiano Ronaldo scores all the time against weaker countries and gets praised for it. Mitrovic scores against them and Newcastle fans cringe. He can only score against who he plays!

What’s more interesting… He’s deemed fit to be a starter for Serbia, a country with a bunch of talented players. But Rafa Benitez thinks Gayle and Joselu are better.

    • Geordiegiants

Let’s sack Benitez and bring in Slavoljub Muslin then eh?

      • Cuh

If he’ll finally break us free of this rubbish 4-2-3-1 set up, why not?

        • Geordiegiants

          Silly silly comment

          • Cuh

            Tailored to your sarcasm

          • Geordiegiants

What’s the point your trying to make? If it’s Rafa makes little mistakes, yes he does. The things is he doesn’t make big ones, his career and his record, with not so fashionable clubs has proven it. How anyone can question his tactics and method is beyond me.
