The latest Sky Sports Power Rankings top 50 players has been published.

The Power Rankings methodology reflects a player’s performance over the last five matchdays by awarding points to players for 32 different stats.

A heavier weighting is given to the most recent match in descending order to the fifth last one, with the intention of showing who is most in form.

After the draw against Liverpool, the rankings have now been updated, with two Newcastle players making the top 50.

United have Lascelles 37th and Mikel Merino 45th.

So why isn’t Captain Fantastic in the England squad?

He and Jonjo Shelvey could probably make a huge difference but its unlikely as Gareth Southgate is an ex-Middlesborough player and manager. It comes down to the anti-Newcastle bias that unfortunately still exists in football. Not that I care as I only support Newcastle and have no interest at all in international fooball.

Might be a good thing for lacelles, hes had a lot of good things lately. Captaincy, new contract,Newcastle doing well, personal recognition, goals, being mentioned for England.Missing out might keep him focused,to our benefit.hes young as well, although hes certainly a “old head”
