The latest Sky Sports Power Rankings top 50 players has been published.

The Power Rankings methodology reflects a player’s performance over the last five matchdays by awarding points to players for 32 different stats.

A heavier weighting is given to the most recent match in descending order to the fifth last one, with the intention of showing who is most in form.

After Newcastle’s 2-2 draw at Southampton the rankings have now been updated, with one surprising Newcastle player making the top 50.

Before Sunday’s match, Jamaal Lascelles was 37th in the power rankings, with Mikel Merino 45th.

However, that pair have dropped out of the top 50 and instead we have Isaac Hayden as the only NUFC representative at 28th.

Obviously his good performance and valuable goal will have been a big help but surprising to see him in this list, as he was dropped for the previous (Liverpool) match, only getting the final 14 minutes off the bench.

Hopefully, Newcastle will be better represented after playing Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Not surprised about Merino.I dont feel hes been at his best since Shelvey has been starting.Ritchie has dropped a little bit at the same time. How do people think Shelvey and Merino are working out?Im not sure its our best formation,I thought we played better without Shelvey,Hopefully some more game time will make them get even better.

I doubt you can judge Shelvey and Merino in combination at all yet given they’ve played about 110 minutes together, 90 of those chasing down Liverpool midfielders …

If it was one or the other i`d always pick Jonjo, i like Merino but Shelvey`s better.

      • Wor Lass

They`re probably the two best players on the books so we need to work out how they can both play. Rafa`ll figure it out.

  • MichaelMaximusMoose

Hayden had a good game and it looks like he`s coming to grips with the pace of the premiership. i`ve always liked the lad & he`ll improve

Does Clarko put these stats together? If not, they`re wrong.
