Redknapp “If Newcastle can get the right owners in…then who knows”

Jamie Redknapp has predicted Newcastle to lose at Burnley but he believes that far better times could be just around the corner for the fans.

Redknapp thinks Rafa Benitez was ‘talking his way out of a job at the start of the season’ as he made clear his displeasure at the lack of backing from Mike Ashley.

However, with Mike Ashley having now put the club up for sale, Jamie Redknapp says Newcastle could be ready for lift-off.

He speaks highly of Rafa Benitez, saying the United boss ‘knows what he is doing, knows how to win games’.

The former Liverpool and Spurs player declares that if Newcastle can hit lucky with the right new owners who are willing to invest properly in the club ‘then who knows’.

Redknapp always loved playing at St James Park as a player and describes it as a ‘special place to play football’.

As Newcastle fans we all wonder at just how mental a place it would be if it was a place that hosted a team winning trophies.

At the minute everybody is just waiting to see what happens with the ownership issue and hoping it has the right outcome.

Jamie Redknapp talking to Sky Sports:

“That (beating Crystal Palace) was a big result for Newcastle, Merino – I like him as a footballer.

“It looked like Rafa was talking his way out of a job at the start of the season but now he (Mike Ashley) wants to sell the club.

“If Newcastle can get the right owners in and spend some money up there, then who knows…

“Newcastle might be on up because Rafa knows what he is doing, he knows how to win games.

“If they got the right players in…it is a special place to play football.

“I always loved playing up there, the fans are great.

“They deserve a bit of success, they deserve some good weekends in the Premier League.

“I like Sean Dyche as well and I can see them (Burnley) winning this one against Newcastle.

“It will be tight, I can’t see too many goals, 1-0 to Burnley.”
