Official Newcastle United Statement – Young midfielder signs contract extension

Newcastle United have revealed on Saturday morning that young midfielder Dan Barlaser has agreed a new deal.

The young Newcastle player turns 21 in January and is now contracted to the club until summer 2019.

Difficult for young players to get a chance when playing for a Premier League club but just maybe, Rafa Benitez sees Barlaser as having something to offer if he can make the right progression.

Good luck to the midfielder regardless, as well as all the other young players who aspire to play for the first team.

There is nothing better than when a player can come through the ranks, which is great for the fans and also inspires those in the younger age groups.

Newcastle United official statement:

‘Newcastle United midfielder Dan Barlaser has signed a contract extension at the club.

The 20-year-old, who made his first team debut in last season’s 3-1 Emirates FA Cup win over Birmingham City, has signed a new deal which will keep him at St. James’ Park until June 2019.

Barlaser – a regular in Peter Beardsley’s United Under-23s side – also made the step up to Rafa Benítez’s first team for another Emirates FA Cup tie at Oxford last season.

This term, as well as featuring for the Magpies’ second string in the Premier League 2 and Checkatrade Trophy, the Gateshead-born former England Under-18 international started in the Carabao Cup tie against Nottingham Forest in August.

“It feels great. To have another two years at the club is really good, and hopefully I can kick on from here,” Barlaser told NUFC TV.

“It’s been a boyhood dream to play to play for Newcastle since I was young, so to play three times is unbelievable. Hopefully I can get a chance in the Premier League sometime soon.”
