Newcastle star just one wrong move away from a ban
After picking up a booking against Southampton, Isaac Hayden is now potentially only one match away from a one game suspension.
The yellow card against the Saints was the midfielder’s fourth of the season, not bad going when you have only started eight matches.
The Crystal Palace game saw four United players booked, though thankfully not Isaac Hayden, along with the defeat at Huddersfield this (four) was the highest number of bookings for Newcastle in a match this season.
Hayden will have to last until the end of December without another card if he is to survive a one match ban, cards are wiped clean for players starting with games in January.
However, players will still get a two match suspension if they pick up 10 yellows by the second weekend in April, after that date they are also wiped clean.
So far, Newcastle have picked up 21 yellow cards and there have been 19 for the opposition in the matches so far.
After Isaac Hayden, Ritchie and Lascelles are next most at risk having picked up three bookings each.
As well as the yellow cards, Jonjo Shelvey picked up a red. Though of course no opposition player has been sent off, which has amazingly been the case since January 2014 in Premier League matches.
Newcastle United bookings so far in the 2017/18 season:
4 Isaac Hayden
3 Jamaal Lascelles, Matt Ritchie
2 Joselu, Mikel Merino
1 Ciaran Clark, Dwight Gayle, Grant Hanley, Florian Lejeune, Javier Manquillo, Ayoze Perez, DeAndre Yedlin
