Newcastle scouts in Vienna on Friday night

The Austrian media have revealed that Newcastle scouts will be in Vienna tonight.

Austria take on Serbia in the penultimate round of World Cup qualifiers and Rafa Benitez will have representatives at the game.

Kleine Zeitung have had access to the list of the clubs who will be in attendance, with everybody from Juventus and Manchester United, down to Wolves and Celtic, set to attend.

No reports of who Newcastle are there to watch in particular but it is a contest between a team with everything to play for and the other with only pride to fight for.

Hosts Austria can’t qualify now, even through the play-off route, whilst Serbia will get a place in Russia and win the group if they win tonight, with a game to spare.

Aleksandar Mitrovic is set to lead the line for Serbia despite being ignored by Rafa Benitez last Sunday against Liverpool, as the Serbs are set to cap a remarkable turn around after a dismal effort at qualifying for the European Championships in 2016.

Kleine Zeitung:

In addition to Manchester United, Dortmund, AC Milan, Atletico Madrid, Juventus and Inter Milan, representatives from Freiburg, Werder Bremen, Stoke, Aston Villa, Everton, Newcastle, Brighton, Wolverhampton, Southampton, Torino, Bergamo, Celtic and Trabzonspor will also be present.

Aleksandar Mitrovic speaking ahead of the Austria v Serbia game:

“I was punished for three games and the team did not play badly during this time, so I stayed on the sidelines.

“That was the decision of the coach (Rafa Benitez).

“I am ready physically and mentally and I can’t wait for the match in Vienna.

“We enter the game against Austria with the desire to win.

“We know where we stand and while we can see the euphoria (of possible qualification), we will not allow it to affect the game in Vienna.

“It would be good to secure the World Cup place following this match.

“As the games have gone along we have got better and we are full of confidence.”
