Newcastle to make January bid for Jakub Jugas after scouting him – Report

Rafa Benitez is to try and land Jakub Jugas in January, according to reports on Sunday morning.

Less than three months to go until the madness of the next transfer window is with us and recent days have seen Newcastle reported to have representation at various international games, looking at possible targets.

However, the Sunday People claim that it is when playing for his club where Jakub Jugas has impressed Newcastle scouts.

The newspaper say that the 25 year old central defender has impressed on each of the three times Newcastle have had him watched.

An Under 21 international for the Czech Republic, Jakub Jugas has made a couple of recent squads but is yet to play for the senior national side.

Having played all of his club football in the domestic Czech Republic league, the defender won their FA Cup with FK Fastav Zlin last season.

There was a lot of competition for his signature amongst Czech clubs in the summer and he eventually signed for Slavia Praha in a modest (by Premier League standards) £500,000 deal, with further cash to be paid if hitting certain targets.

Jugas played in the Champions League qualifying rounds this summer and is now playing for Slavia Praha in the Europa League group stages, games where the Newcastle scouts are likely to have seen the defender play – if the newspaper reports are accurate…

After impressing this season, the player’s value is said to have risen to around the £2m mark, obviously still a bargain price if Rafa Benitez decides he wants to add him to the squad in January.

Be prepared for many more transfer stories before we get to the transfer window.
