Michael Owen has given his verdict on the Newcastle v Crystal Palace match.
The former NUFC striker says he expects Newcastle fans to be ‘pleased with the news of the impending sale by owner Mike Ashley’.
Never the most interesting person to listen to, suggesting the supporters would be ‘pleased’ is surely understatement of the year.
The game was sold out some time ago and all the factors are there….
There will be almost 51,000 Newcastle fans (Palace took less than half the available allocation), two very good performances and decent results against Liverpool and Southampton, Rafa taking the team to ninth place (two points off fifth), and of course the Mike Ashley news/circus this week.
As Michael Owen says: ‘St James Park will be rocking’, but he isn’t expecting a great game.
He sees a ‘likely cagey 90 minutes for both sides’ and has bottled out of making a match prediction of who will win, though he appears to indicate a low scoring draw with his comments and his bet prediction is less than three goals in the game.
Even with that win against Chelsea, we will surely see Newcastle trying to get on the front foot against a Palace team who had lost their first seven PL matches without scoring a goal.
We all know that all out attack won’t happen, as it is not the Rafa way, but surely important that he uses what is sure to be a buoyant crowd from the first minute and get at the opposition.
Michael Owen speaking to BetVictor:
“Palace claimed a first league win of the season with last weekend’s scalp of Champions Chelsea but are unlikely to replicate that in the North-East in a likely cagey 90 minutes for both sides.
“Michael Owen betting Tip: Under 2.5 Goals at 8/11”
