Jack Cork “I saw Newcastle against Liverpool and they look good”

Jack Cork must love playing against Newcastle United.

In the last seven and a half years, half of his Premier League goals have come against the Magpies.

Admittedly he doesn’t score a lot of them, only four in the top tier in that time period, but on 12 September 2014 he scored as Southampton hammered Newcastle 4-0, then later that season did the same for Swansea as they won 3-2 at St James Park.

Looking ahead to tonight’s game, Jack Cork says ‘I saw Newcastle against Liverpool and they look good’.

The midfielder sees Rafa Benitez having ‘an organised outfit with good individual players, good quality’.

Last season Burnley won 10 Premier League games at home but this time around it is only one from four so far – but still Cork insists ‘A point is a good result for any team that comes to Turf Moor’.

Between them the two teams have scored 19 goals this season and only conceded 18 overall, suggesting there won’t be loads of goals in either net.

A lot of neutrals may be thinking twice about tuning in but neither set of fans will care about that – a win for Newcastle will mean sixth place and for Burnley at least seventh, possibly sixth.

The first (if there is a…) goal looks more important than ever tonight.

Jack Cork:

“Newcastle are in good form as well.

“They scored late on (against Palace) but it is at our place and hopefully we can start the game right and get our heads in front early.

“I saw Newcastle against Liverpool and they look good.

“They are an organised outfit with good individual players, good quality, and it will be a tough game but it will be one that we’re ready for.

“It would be nice to get a good win at home…

“It’s always good to win at home in the Premier League.

“We know none of them are easy and it’s been difficult at times against teams that play different to opposition that we’ve played away from home. We’ll be ready for it.

“We’ve shown from games that we have played that we can be dangerous when we’ve got the ball.

“A point is a good result for any team that comes to Turf Moor.

“They know that. A team that comes for a point sets up differently from a team that comes to win.

“It’s always different going into home games.”
