Interesting comments from Burnley fans about Newcastle supporters and match
Burnley fans are looking forward tonight to hosting Newcastle United at Turf Moor for only the second time in 34 years .
They are worried about the lack of goals after scoring only eight in their nine games so far, especially with doubts about the fitness of strikers Wood and Vokes.
One thing they do have a grudging admiration for is the numbers Newcastle take away.
The full away allocation was quickly snapped up and one of the Burnley fans remarks on Newcastle supporters often using Burnley as a stop-off point for drinks, when the Magpies would regularly take ‘seven or eight thousand’ to the Lancashire club’s rivals Blackburn.
The home support sees two very similar teams clashing tonight so will there be anything to choose between them after 90 minutes?
Burnley fans comment via their top Up The Clarets message board:
‘Already seen a few Newcastle supporters – no other Clarets – fingers crossed for a great result.
Happy hour in the bar so I have my seat already!’
‘Going to be a tight game given the defensive quality of each team, the midfield will be key to unlocking the Geordies. I can’t see the shots on target stat being very high for this game of football chess.’
‘Tonight has the potential to be an absolute shocker no doubt.
Two well organised teams, both lacking up front.
With two managers who would take a point now if offered. Can see a repeat of the Huddersfield (0-0 home) game tbh.’
‘The club have kept very quiet about Wood, which usually suggests it’s not good news.
A front two of Barnes with Arfield just behind wouldn’t trouble most Championship sides, could be a long night in store if that’s the case.’
‘Reminds me of Newcy Brown, a powerful headbangers drink.
Rough pubs on Tyneside calmed down when landlords stopped stocking the pint size bottles.’
‘Do we know if all the visiting tickets have gone?
I know given the Geordies this would be a stupid question but Newcastle to Burnley on a Monday night when it’s on telly makes me wonder.’
‘I’m certain they will be.
Geodies used to have a pub stop stop off in town on way to Ewood every season when they’d take 7 or 8 thousand!’
‘Say what you like about the Mags.
But one thing about them that won’t change, is they’ve a huge, passionate fan base.
I’d be surprised if they hadn’t sold out their seats.’
‘If it (music played inside Turf Moor) is anything like the song selection back in the day for the Man City home game, where they thought it was a good idea to play a half time selection of Oasis songs then i’d expect.
- Blaydon Races
- Fog on the Tyne
- The theme tunes to Byker Grove and Jossy’s Giants
- Compilation of Jimmy Nail songs, remember she’s lying’
‘If we had a full strength squad I would expect at least a draw. If both Wood and Vokes are out then I would be ecstatic with a point.’
‘Stuck in an Irish pub with plenty of big screens.
Cummon you mighty Clarets. 3-0.’
