Danny Murphy claims Newcastle won’t be able to handle Crystal Palace stars

Danny Murphy has gone a little bit overboard with Crystal Palace ahead of today’s match.

Palace come to St James Park having failed to pick up a single point or score a goal in their opening seven Premier League games.

It proved eighth time lucky last weekend and after beating Chelsea, Danny Murphy appears to think there will be no stopping the mighty Eagles.

Not able to see the possibility of them losing, Murphy even thinks ‘Palace will have had a great week and have to believe they can win again’.

The player turned pundit claims Rafa Benitez will have made special plans on how to deal with the ‘the threat Palace carry going forward’.

I wouldn’t claim any match is going to be easy and of course they got a really good result last weekend – but Palace aren’t suddenly a great attacking team, full of flair.

As for the main threat the visitors will carry, Danny Murphy declares ‘I don’t fancy Newcastle’s defence to keep Wilfried Zaha and Andros Townsend quiet’.

Once again, we know these are two players that can have their moments but having already seen the Newcastle defence do well against Liverpool’s attacking talent, as well as coping comfortably with Spurs (before Shelvey’s sending off), there is no reason why Lascelles and the rest can’t cope with Zaha and Townsend.

Hopefully the likes of Merino, Shelvey, and Ritchie, will be keeping them busy at the other end, Palace having conceded 18 goals already, with not a single clean sheet.

Danny Murphy speaking to the Evening Standard:

“I don’t fancy Newcastle’s defence to keep Wilfried Zaha and Andros Townsend quiet.

“Jamaal Lascelles is a good player in defence for the home side but with Zaha back in the side, Crystal Palace carry a serious threat and I am confident they will get at least a draw.

“I’d be amazed if Roy Hodgson changes his starting XI, even though Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who was ineligible against his parent club Chelsea last weekend, is available again.

“Both Townsend and Yohan Cabaye will be keen to perform well against one of their former clubs, while Zaha deserves great credit for how well he has maintained his fitness during his time out.

“Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez knows the threat Palace carry going forward and will have a plan to stop them.

“He may even play on the counter-attack but Palace will have had a great week and have to believe they can win again.”
