The international break brought claims that Chris Hughton was interested in Aleksandar Mitrovic and is looking to sign him in January.

With no club football there were plenty of transfer stories filling the media gaps and this was one of the more interesting ones.

What did Brighton fans think of the idea though?

Judging by the comments below, they appear to be pretty unified in their opinion…

Brighton fans comment via their top North Stand Chat message board:

‘Mitrovic not good enough for me, also a walking red card if ever there was one.’

‘I would be amazed. He’d be too expensive and probably not good enough. He wasn’t starting for Newcastle in the Championship, never mind this division.’

‘If he’s not good enough for Newcastle, then not good enough for the Albion

No thanks!’

‘I suspect Mitrovic is a lazy rumour based on our need and Toon’s desire to get rid.’

‘I’d be amazed.

It isn’t that Mitrovic hasn’t got talent, and I don’t care whether or not he is good enough for Newcastle if he could do a job for us.

It’s the bloke himself. Even at Anderlecht he got abuse from fans for turning up one season about 2 stone overweight. He has had a lot of problems at Newcastle, clearly has a dodgy temperament and major discipline issues.

If he wasn’t prepared to get himself sorted out for Newcastle, he won’t for us either. It would smack of utter desperation.’

‘6 month loan is the best i would give him, with the option to buy.’

‘Toon season ticket holder I know says he’s woeful,I trust his judgement.’

‘Can’t see it for more than a couple reasons, no chance.’

‘He is utter rubbish. (As a Toon supporting friend described him….in the Championship).

Still, you can’t beat a January transfer rumour in early October. That’s the international break for you!’

‘I don’t understand this thing of “if he isn’t good enough for Newcastle, he isn’t good enough for us.”

I have no opinion either way on Mitrovic specifically but sometimes moves don’t work out. Everyone was laughing at Man U when they bought Forlan. He clearly didn’t settle in the UK because he banged them in for fun at Athletico.

Andy Caroll MK1 is another example. At West Ham, they played to his strengths and he scored hatfuls. He then moved to Liverpool (ED: Ironic that this one doesn’t appear to realise that Carroll actually started at Newcastle!) and struggled because they play the ball through the middle to feet more whereas West Ham got crosses in.’

‘Not convinced he’s any quicker or better than the strikers we currently have.

Think we need a striker with more pace. Any thoughts?’

‘Mitrovic is a thug.

Agree we could do with a little more aggressiveness in that position but not THAT much.’

Unless we somehow manage to get a proven goalscorer in in January I’d much rather have him in the squad that helping Brighton stay in the division. With any luck,he’ll have a decent world cup with Serbia and we’ll be able to get a decent price for him next summer. I actually quite like Mitro but he isn’t a good fit for the sort of system Rafa likes to play so I’m resigned to him leaving at some point, unless the manager leaves first that is.

It it is true, then obviously Chris H sees a potential in a way to play his game. Chris H is no mug.

silly. He’s the best striker on either side. Whether he’s a good fit is another question altogether.
