Amusing as Bristol City fans discuss where to drink before and after Sunderland match…
Bristol City fans have all eyes on Sunderland this afternoon as their team takes on the Mackems.
However, outside of the 90 minutes it appears their attention is focused elsewhere…
Thousands of Bristol City fans descended on Newcastle last season, enjoying a 2-2 draw and just as importantly for many of them, a night or two staying over in Newcastle.
I came across these amusing comments from Bristol City fans after one of them asked where everybody was drinking in Sunderland pre and post-match this weekend…
Bristol City fans comment via their top One Team In Bristol message board:
‘Which pre match pub are we using tomorrow?’
‘Where will people be headed tomorrow? Will everyone be drinking in Newcastle pubs or go straight to Sunderland?’
‘Sam Jacks in Newcastle was closed a month ago when I was up there, always worth a couple in there pre and post match!!’
‘Hopefully just for refurbishment. Such a classy establishment.’
‘Think most are staying in Newcastle mate. We are.’
‘So nothing to help me in Sunderland then, ah well…’
‘Anyone else in Sunderland this (Friday) evening? Where we drinking?’
‘Jesmond. Lots of reds about.’
‘We’ve met up with a large contingent of city fans in Newcastle tonight (Friday).’
‘Setting of at 7am! Staying on the Toon tomorrow night.’
‘We will be heading into Newcastle on the night too but thought there might be a gathering nearer the ground pre match…’
‘Coming across from Newcastle, must have to get off metro at Stadium of light.’
‘Try the Colliery Tavern. For those getting the Metro over from Newcastle it’s a short walk from the Stadium of Light Metro station and it’s the nearest pub to the away end (other than the bar at the Hilton hotel).’
‘So where is everyone heading? Doesnt appear to be a pub where everyone is descending on as yet…’
‘In ‘the victory’ at the moment, very quiet tho!! Anyone else around by the ground yet??’
‘Just walked past the Victory which looked terrible and in the Wheatsheaf which isn’t much better but few City in here.’
‘I now live in Whitley Bay, and have done so for last 30 years, just a few hundred yards away from Spanish City which I’m pleased to say is finally being refurbished as is the whole of the Whitley Bay sea front.
The description of the North East coastline is accurate: fantastic scenery and a great part of the country. Me and my Geordie wife will be there today and as a current City supporter who was a born Newcastle fan she has two reasons for wanting a victory for the lads today.’
‘Having lived in the North East for a significant percentage of my adult life I can’t echo enough the hope that Sunderland do not implode as they seem in danger of doing. And I say this as a Newcastle sympathiser.
While there is undoubtedly much post-industrial blight there are also many great towns and cities in the NE – Newcastle, Durham, Hexham and Castle Barnard for example. The countryside is indeed beautiful.’
***Just to reinforce the point, Bristol City fans walked away after their win at the Stadium of Light chanting this…
