Alan Shearer reaction after Newcastle 1 Liverpool 1
Newcastle’s ‘resolute’ performance on Sunday afternoon impressed Alan Shearer.
Whilst Newcastle only had 32% possession, the NUFC legend said that despite dominating the ball, the visitors were far ‘too slow in possession’.
Liverpool described as being ‘wasteful in attack and poor at the back again’.
A brilliant Shelvey pass setting up the equaliser but Klopp will be furious that they were undone so easily.
Summing up the game, Alan Shearer said ‘Liverpool didn’t have enough answers to the rigid, compact shape of Newcastle’.
Alan Shearer:
“Good point for a resolute Newcastle United.
“Liverpool too slow in possession, wasteful in attack and poor at the back again.
“From a Newcastle point of view it was a very good, solid, performance – in particular in the second half. Liverpool only really had one opportunity.
“Liverpool didn’t have enough answers to the rigid, compact shape of Newcastle. Their pace of play was too slow.
“The defence again has cost them.
“Liverpool have a long way to go if are to be challenging for the title.
“It won’t be happening this season.”
