Alan Pardew thinks Newcastle got lucky at Southampton

Alan Pardew felt Newcastle had carried the luck after coming away with a 2-2 draw from Southampton.

DeAndre Yedlin was already on a yellow card and after Perez had just put United back in front early in the second half, the right-back slid in on Redmond.

Pardew saying ‘I can’t understand how DeAndre Yedlin stays on the pitch’.

Whilst it could have been a second booking, it was embarrassing how often the Sky Sports commentators and ‘experts’ kept referring back to the incident.

Yet they made nothing of the fact that Gabbiadini tried to cheat his way to a penalty only to be spotted by the referee, the official not giving a yellow for that either.

On the positive side though, Alan Pardew thought ‘Jonjo Shelvey was terrific’ and he thinks Rafa Benitez will ‘definitely be pleased’ with what has happened after he failed to strengthen the squad as much as he would have liked in the summer.

Alan Pardew talking on Sky Sports:

“I can’t understand how DeAndre Yedlin stays on the pitch.

“Even at the time…the reaction of the fans, they knew he had already been booked.

“Rafa Benitez will definitely be pleased.

“He was a little bit despondent with the number of signings he made in the summer but the players he has brought in, have done very well.

“I thought that  Jonjo Shelvey was terrific today.

“Everything was clever and composed, Newcastle look like they have a few more passes in them.

“They are growing in confidence and when you get promoted to the Premier League you need to grow in confidence.

“Those 11 points that they (already) have will give them that.”
