Redknapp recognises Newcastle star’s quality in Premier League team of the week

Picking his Premier League team of the week, Jamie Redknapp has picked put one Newcastle star from Saturday.

Last week it was Jamaal Lascelles who was chosen after his winner against Swansea but this time he was overlooked.

Instead, Jamie Redknapp had his focus on Matt Ritchie as the non-stop winger produced both assists in the win over Stoke.

As Redknapp points out, only Henrikh Mkhitaryan at Manchester United has more assists this season.

The current Premier League assists table showing:

5 Henrikh Mkhitaryan

4 Matt Ritchie

4 David Silva

3 Kevin De Bruyne

Last season, Matt Ritchie produced 12 goals and 7 assists, whilst in Bournemouth’s promotion season of 2014/15 it was a staggering 15 goals and 17 assists for Ritchie.

His only previous Premier League season saw the winger score 4 goals and grab 6 assists for Bournemouth, suggesting that his efforts might be blunted to a significant degree in the top tier.

However, with 4 assists in only 5 Premier League matches already, as well as the overall quality of his play, Matt Ritchie is looking a player right at home at the top level.
