Paul Merson has been looking ahead to Sunday afternoon’s match.
The former Middlesbrough player actually praising Rafa Benitez’ team, saying ‘Newcastle had a superb result against West Ham’.
After games against other likely bottom half candidates Huddersfield and West Ham, Newcastle now face Swansea, Stoke and Brighton, clubs who are also likely to be nearer the bottom than the top in May.
However, Paul Merson thinks ‘Premier League class will show in this one’.
Unfortunately he is not referring to the likes of Matt Ritchie, Ciaran Clark and Jonjo Shelvey.
Merson predicts a 2-0 home win and declares ‘Swansea have been there and done it and will have too much for Newcastle’.
As poor as West Ham were two weekends ago, you have to feel that Newcastle showed enough to give Swansea a good game.
Results haven’t been great in recent years with the last four visits seeing three defeats and one draw – but Newcastle must fancy their chances of getting something.
Paul Merson speaking to Sky Sports:
“Swansea made a few additions on Deadline Day and that will have lifted the club.
“I didn’t think they were great against Palace but did what they had to do.
“I’m looking forward to watching Renato Sanches. If he gets anywhere near to the form he showed at Euro 2016 everybody in Europe will be thinking: “How did Swansea get him?”
“Obviously it’s because of Paul Clement, who was Carlo Ancelotti’s assistant at Bayern Munich so fair play to him, it’s an excellent signing.
“Newcastle had a superb result against West Ham but I think the Premier League class will show in this one.
“Swansea have been there and done it and will have too much for Newcastle.”
