Yes I know it is only five matches in…but just imagine how funny it would be, if after this latest round of matches, Newcastle were top four in the Premier League table?

After the readiness to have a go at Rafa Benitez and his players after the opening two defeats, what would the media be saying if this was the case on Sunday night?

These are the Premier League matches this weekend….

Friday 15 September

Bournemouth v Brighton (8pm)

Saturday 16 September

Crystal Palace v Southampton (12.30)

Huddersfield Town v Leicester City (3pm)

Liverpool v Burnley (3pm)

Newcastle v Stoke (3pm)

Watford v Manchester City (3pm)

West Brom v West Ham (3pm)

Tottenham v Swansea (5.30pm)

Sunday 17 September

Chelsea v Arsenal (1.30pm)

Manchester United v Everton (4pm)

….and this is how the Premier League table looks before this weekend’s games (15 September 2017):

‘All’ that would need to happen for Newcastle to be sitting in a Monday morning Champions League spot, assuming NUFC beat Stoke of course, is for…

Manchester City to beat Watford

Huddersfield to fail to beat Leicester

West Ham get at least a draw at West Brom

Liverpool and Burnley to play out a draw

The things you daydream about when waiting for Friday afternoon to be over at work!

Great, maybe we can sign Alexis Sanchez in January

    • Damon Horner

Already a done deal. Just waiting for Charnley to find his pen.

Sadly there’s no ink in it !

We lost the first two championship games and won the league so clearly the premiership will be exactly the same we should be top by the end of October

      As long as that?

let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves.

Exactly, so many permutations that it’s not worth thinking that way.
All we need to think about is a positive result against stoke.

I thought the same thing yesterday after studying the table. There are 5 Clubs with 7 points above us and as I doubt that they will all win tomorrow, victory over the Potters will in fact lift us into the top 4. But if we are still there come January we won’t get a penny for transfers as the fat stinking bag of pus will say that we got to that position with the bargain players we got in the summer and we don’t need any more. Talk about being a victim of one’s success…..

Obviously, we have to try and win every game but it`s vital that we beat the teams that are likely to be around us this season. Stoke are one of the middle group of PL survivors and we need to be beating them – especially at home – if we want to avoid relegation worries. It`s a bit early to start predicting where we`ll finish but a few wins now will do our confidence no end of good. The players are on board (and increasingly fit), Rafa isn`t going anywhere and the fans are right behind him. Stuff Ashley and his minions, let`s just enjoy the ride and back the lads to the hilt.

Sam, what are you doing. Surely you have supported the toon long enough to know what usually happens when you start talking like this. It’s your fault if we don’t get 3 points today😺

If we keep picking up results we don’t need to worry about anyone else. If the players put the same effort as they did against Swansea and take their chances we will do better than most of us hoped for. I fear Champions League football might be a tad out of our reach though.

Sam, just wondering what you fancied in the 2 15 at Bath this afternoon. You’re on a roll. I hope you backed those selections in an accumulator.
