Newcastle scouts travel to watch Aaron Olanare impress in Champions League action
Newcastle United scouts are continuing to monitor Aaron Olanare according to reports on Thursday morning.
On Tuesday night, Newcastle United were represented at the Stadium of Light (the proper one – not the half empty copy where Daryl Murphy scored the winner) watching Champions League action.
Benfica took on CSKA Moscow in the first group game and the visitors pulled off a shock 2-1 victory.
Aaron Olanare was one of CSKA Moscow’s top players on the night and the left footed attacking player impressed in his 67 minutes on the pitch, before being subbed.
As well as Newcastle, Tottenham are also said to be watching the 23 year old Nigerian international.
He previously played in Norway for Valerenga and in China with Guangzhou Evergrande, before a loan spell at CSKA Moscow and eventually joining the Russian club permanently in January 2017.
CSKA got to the group stage of the Champions League via the qualifying rounds and the reports claim that both Newcastle and Spurs were there to watch Aaron Olanare when the Russian side beat Young Boys in the play-off round last month. The Nigerian came on in the 54th minute from the bench as CSKA won 1-0.
We actually covered the Newcastle scouts attending that Young Boys v CSKA match last month but Swiss publication Blick claimed (see below) then that Newcastle were instead there watching Youn Boys defender, Kasim.
The Mag – 21 August 2017:
Newcastle scouts were in attendance at the Wankdorf stadium last week.
The match was a Champions League play-off between Young Boys and CSKA Moscow.
On the night the first leg was decided by a dramatic own goal from Kasim (full name Kasim Adams Nuhu), the Young Boys centre-back, in the 91st minute.
This is the player who Newcastle scouts were there to watch, according to Swiss publication Blick.
