Whilst recent days have predictably seen the conversation dominated by the players Newcastle haven’t signed this summer, Mikel Merino has now provided us with an extra something to smile about.

Already having impressed with his contribution to Newcastle’s 3-0 win over West Ham, the young midfielder has now shown his talent once again in another 3-0 victory.

Friday saw Mikel Merino turn out for the Spain Under 21s, up against Italy in a high quality encounter between the best young players from the two countries.

Enjoy the video footage below.

Mikel Merino scoring a goal of great beauty, as he received the ball on the edge of the box before nutmegging the defender and coolly slotting into the bottom corner.

Then cleverly winning a tackle and turning at the same time, allowing him to set up the second of the Spanish Under 21s’ three goals.

So we do have something positive to look forward to???
And he is me thinking we are certs for relegation, and Newcastle City will burn down and we are all going to die of pox……………….

    • JackN

Thanks to Benitez boring defensive 10 men behind the ball football
we will not get relegated, trust me ….

      • I’d like to see you play high-line attacking football with the players we have and see if you’ll survive in the Prem.
We are playing 10 times better than with Pardew, Carver and McClown, sorry if it’s not as entertaining, but we do play football(not just hoofing it around) and produce results.

That`s him sold for £25m next summer

    • JackN

So Newcastle will pay £6.5m next summer due to obligation term & then straight away accept an offer of £25m to sell…???
In what world you are living in sir??

      • Danimal

        The real one unfortunately!

      • MichaelMaximusMoose

the World of Mike Ashley pal !!!

      • Clarko

In a world where logic ceases to exist.

        • Carlo Ancelotti

          • Clarko

Coming from someone pretending to be Carlo Ancelotti? Talk about pathetic.

      • Biggs Darklighter

That is the Mike Ashley world

  • morryJR

Good goal….the fans spotted his talent in the pre-season games…..the transfer window hasn’t been a complete disaster then… unless of course he gets sold in January ..or gets taken out with a Harry Kane type foul.

  • Lord

Some of his passes against West Ham reminded me of Cabaye’s slide rules. Could be one of the signings of the season.

  • Steve Pearce

So do we play him and Shelvey together? I think that would be potentially the best midfield paring of the season but what a shame there isn’t a quality striker for them to supply……

    • Biggs Darklighter

He may stick with Hayden and Merino and put Shelvey in behind the striker.

      • Steve Pearce

Interesting line up – but I’d probably put Merino behind the striker as Shelvey’s never played that far forward before.

  • Monksaton Magpies

yet another great signing pure quality who will give us more scope and direction.the fans should be happy with six quality signings plus think arrons has the potential to come good.a very exciting squad will end up ith arrons lacelles, gayle, mitro, shelvey, dummett and darlow on the bench most games so exciting times so stop moaning and get yourselves down to swansea still tickets left but brighton sold out such is the demand to see an exciting team keep the faith.

😂you’ve got to be a troll, or if not off your trolley!

  • Paul Smith

What happens if he continues to perform well and a champions league team starts sniffing around him ? We only have him on loan… Even if we have an option or even an obligation to buy, presumably nothing forces the player to join us next season if he doesn’t want to.

We have a transfer agreement with Dortmund but presumably the player hasn’t agreed terms for beyond this season. If a better team shows interest why would he decide with us permanently when the club shows so little ambition?
