Mikel Merino “Not everything is bad when you lose”

Mikel Merino has been reflecting on the season so far.

The on-loan midfielder saying that Newcastle put together that three match winning run ‘because we did good things and not too many bad things’.

Echoing his manager though, the 21 year old says that winning and losing is all about ‘small margins’, particularly in the Premier League.

Mikel Merino not wanting to get too carried with either winning or losing, the Spaniard points out that ‘not everything is bad when you lose and not everything is good when you win’.

At Brighton, the midfielder thinks it was simply down to not taking chances when they came along, then getting punished when poor marking allowed the winning goal.

Merino saying it is simply about keeping ‘concentration’ and improving as the season progresses.

When it comes to not taking chances, Newcastle fans are looking to see what Rafa Benitez does against Liverpool when it comes to his selection in the forward positions.

Joselu doesn’t look a natural goalscorer, whilst Ayoze Perez struggles to make any impact at all.

Rafa Benitez looked to have a strong bench at Brighton so interesting to see if anybody is promoted on Sunday as his old club come to Toon.

Mikel Merino talking to NUFC TV:

“We had chances and good things – we have to be happy with the effort (against Brighton).

“Not everything is bad when you lose and not everything is good when you win.

“Scoring early chances is very important and that was the difference, that is all.

“The matches we have won were because we did good things and not too many bad things – when you do something bad and are up against a good team, they will score.

“Football is about small margins and we have to learn, we have to keep our concentration and improve.

“It’s always important when you play at home and to play against a team like Liverpool, it is even better, our fans will be behind us and it will be a great match.”
