Michael Owen has been looking ahead to Sunday’s match.

The former player saying he has ‘fond memories of St James Park’.

However, he goes on to pick out the hat-trick he scored against Newcastle, for Liverpool, back in August 1998.

Liverpool were wasteful in front of goal yet again on Tuesday night, only drawing 1-1 away at Spartak Moscow after dominating both chances and the overall game.

However, Michael Owen doesn’t expect any problems on Sunday, predicting the scousers to ‘bounce back’ and beat Liverpool.

The only silver lining is that he does expect Newcastle to still score at least one goal despite predicting a home defeat.

Judging by Liverpool’s defending this season, they have already conceded 19 goals in all competitions, you’d have to be disappointed if Newcastle can’t get on the scoresheet.

Earlier today we featured comments from Liverpool supporters about the Newcastle match and they were a real mix of expecting a win but also fearing the defence will cost them, especially up against their cunning former manager Rafa Benitez.

In the relegation season two years ago, Newcastle still managed to beat Liverpool 2-0 at St James Park, a repeat would do very nicely.

Michael Owen speaking to BetVictor:

“I have fond memories of St James Park and scored a hat-trick for Liverpool in the corresponding fixtures back in 1998.

“The Reds saved bookmakers a fortune midweek but I expect Liverpool to bounce back when travelling to Newcastle on Sunday.

“Michael Owen recommended bet: Liverpool to win and both teams to score at 9/4

    He’s shameless that he’d actually say that.
    The amount of money he made from the club and the little kids who wasted money on shirts with his name and his only good memory is scoring against is.
    What a ba||sucker.

  • Kneebotherm8

    His fondest memories of St James Park would be playing for Liverpool,he didn’t play for us very much. He played more games for England,than us,in his time here.

    Please explain why this shameful excuse for a football player is allowed to spout his drivel on these pages. I mean you can’t possibly be in love with him as he needs a magnifying glass to examine his gentleman’s area….
