Friday morning has seen an official announcement from Newcastle United, revealing their first ever sleeve sponsor.

Thankfully it is not another freebie for Sports Direct and instead is the Madras Rubber Factory Limited.

No indication as to how much they have paid for the privilege but I’m sure it will top up Rafa’s January transfer kitty, along with the cash from FUN88, the players Benitez sold this summer….

Newcastle United Official Announcement:

‘Newcastle United have named Indian tyre conglomerate Madras Rubber Factory Limited – more commonly known as MRF – as the club’s new shirt sleeve sponsor for the 2017/18 Premier League season.

Founded in 1946, MRF is the largest manufacturer of tyres in India and has more than 15,000 employees. The publicly listed company also produces treads, tubes and conveyor belts, as well as toys and paint.

India is a key market for the Premier League and its clubs, with Star Sports’ live HD coverage reaching a fanatical fan base across more than 75million homes.

With the Premier League enabling clubs to feature a sponsor on one sleeve for the very first time this season, MRF becomes Newcastle United’s first ever sleeve sponsor in the club’s 125th anniversary year.

MRF’s logo will now feature on the left sleeve of the Magpies’ home, away, third and goalkeeper kits, while the Premier League logo will remain on the right sleeve.

The team will wear shirts adorned with MRF for the first time during this Sunday’s Premier League trip to Swansea City, which is being broadcast live around the world.

Lee Charnley, managing director at Newcastle United Football Club, said: “I am delighted to welcome MRF as the club’s first shirt sleeve partner.

“MRF is a hugely respected global brand and a market leader in a territory where a passion for football is continuing to grow.

“The partnership is a great fit for Newcastle United and we look forward to building our relationship and assisting MRF in growth both domestically and internationally.”

Koshy K Varghese, MRF’s executive vice-president of marketing, said: “We are thrilled to join Newcastle United at an important time in the club’s history.

“To be the club’s first shirt sleeve partner in its 125th anniversary year is a huge honour and we’re proud to be part of a one-club city. We are extremely excited for the Premier League season ahead.”

MRF currently enjoys a suite of other partnerships in sport, with prominent endorsements of cricket stars Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers, as well as previously sponsoring Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara.’

We are thrilled to join Newcastle United at an important time in the club’s history….. a relegation struggle?

    ….thats a bit bonkers!

  • Peaky Magpie

Chinese & Indian sponsors, mmmm I wonder who Lardy is trying to impress and sell the club to ?

    • Clarko

He’ll sell his club to whoever he likes. I for one will mourn the day he sells up.
He’s been a godsend to this club.
We’re on a financial even keel and ran in a sustainable manner.
These keyboard warriors who claim to know the inside workings of the club are just morons. I’ve seen the club accounts and clearly know more.

      • Guest 2

Anyone can see the clubs accounts, you Muppet. Or at least, the version they release as a ‘group’ of companies.
        It’s called Companies House.

        • Oooh bobbi fleckman

Yes, very few seem to bother reading and understanding them.

      • Peaky Magpie

“I for one” been the most telling bit of that second sentence.I found the club accounts myself in less than a minute on line but heh ho.Anyway thanks for the update Mr Moncur.

        • Kneebotherm8

          Concur,not Moncur.

        • Oooh bobbi fleckman

If you’ve bothered reading the accounts, you’ve put more effort into understanding the position than most of the gobswhatsits on here.

      • Kneebotherm8

        Penfold in disguise?🙈🙉🙊

      • Oooh bobbi fleckman

The biggest worry someone takes over and gears it up to recover their takeover money. IF there is an investor, I hope MA stays and goes 50:50

  • sam

more money for fatty to stick in his back pocket

  • Mrkgw

Wouldn’t have them on my sleeve or, my car for that matter (never heard of them)- will stick with my Bridgestones! What would have looked nice would have been the Newcastle Breweries blue star. That said, when have this current regime ever bothered about what looks nice….

    • Guest 2

The blue star went after S&N sold all their pubs etc and the brewery is now owned by Heineken!.

      • mentalman

don’t let facts or anything get in the way of a dig at MA

        • Guest 2

Err, which facts in my comment do you disagree with?

  • East Durham Mag

How much is the deal worth and what will happen to the money? As if we didn’t know anyway.

  • Guest 2

Madras, as in curry… quite apt as along with Fatty, Penfold and the weasels of Bishop and Barnes it’s a combination guaranteed to give us all the trots

    • Oooh bobbi fleckman

  • Alex

Sounds like a dodgy condom manufacturer.

    • Guest 2

LOL. Just a wee side note of interest – “MRF manufactures cricket bats, gloves, pads and other accessories.”
Tut tut, would it be sceptical to think this is another SD minded link-up in the Indian market???

      • Leazes Ender

        Oh its an SD supplier.

        • Ram Kishore

Lol no Leazes and not a condom manufacturer

        • Oooh bobbi fleckman

No you simpleton, just read the press release, they make tyres.

      • Oooh bobbi fleckman

Jeez, do any of you read, take anything in or think before you type?

They don’t manufacture bats, it’s tyres, round things that go on cars and other vehicles.

  • Ram Kishore

As a newcastle fan from India..Guys its not a SD supplier or anything..its just a.manufacturer of tyres and other tyre accessories..
Obviously not a condom manufacturer lol
They don’t manufacture cricket accessories like bat or gloves.. Their logo appears on the bat and sometime gloves of cricketers just like the shirt sleeve sponsor..and Sports direct doesn’t have any presence here lol

    • Kneebotherm8

      No SD presence there,lucky you.

    • Guest 2

“India’s most expensive stock is of a company that started out making balloons and contraceptives” (ananews).
According to Wiki they also do indeed manufacture cricket kit.

      • Ram Kishore

I just found about the condom making just now lol thanks

  • roblee07

i am a bit cynical but cant help thing the announcement of this deal was delayed a week after the transfer window closed.

    • roblee07

      • Oooh bobbi fleckman

It will have been announced in conjunction with the other deals, West ham and West Brom, usually at the behest of the sponsor to get full coverage and make the most of the announcement. Friday Evening in India, better TV coverage. This is why they use an agent.

  • PercyArcade

    Madras Rubber Factory. Here’s hoping the cheque doesn’t bounce . . .

    • Rich Lawson

Funny, intrigued,I used to work in The Handyside Arcade on Percy St,did you ?

  • Awaymag

There will never be a sleeve sponsor more fitting than when ‘specsavers’ used to be on the premier league referees shirts. As for these runbber merchants, it was going to happen and hopefully we will have extra coin to spend in January…

  • Rich Lawson

Never heard of them ! But good to know they outbid Google and BP.

  • Geordiegiants

That hasn’t offend anyone for a change, well done you fat cun t, why didn’t you give Rafa money to spend knowing this was coming.
