Using our interactive feature, NUFC team selector, supporters have chosen their Newcastle team v Brighton.

The collective formation chosen was 4-2-3-1 with fans going for a team that looks very similar to the one that defeated Stoke City 2-1 last Saturday.

Rafa Benitez shook things up then with three changes from the team he put out against Swansea and there’s nothing to say he won’t do the same again.

However, the fans have overwhelmingly indicated they would like to see most of Saturday’s line up at Brighton tomorrow.

The back five were all big favourites to stay the same, with a similar story in midfield with Merino and Hayden, the Spaniard having pretty much universal support after his efforts in these last three wins.

With Ritchie it is the same story as Merino and Christian Atsu & Joselu both picked up somewhere around 75% support.

Gayle was the competition for Joselu, whilst both Rolando Aarons and Jacob Murphy had minor support as well.

The one change supporters did go for, was Jonjo Shelvey narrowly getting the pick ahead of Ayoze Perez in the number 10 position.

Joselu will turn out to be this seasons SloMo, i watched him in the 5 league matches & for me he`s not a striker that will get you goals.
1 in 5 up to now goes some way to prove the point

  • Mick g

Don’ t get this obsession with some people wanting Shelvey as a number 10.
Surely that would hold back his major talent , which is long range passing?
Merino maybe , or even Gayle but not Shelvey.

    • Wor Lass

His short range passing and through b*lls are pretty good as well. The thing for me is that he`s too good a player not to have in the team. Merino has pretty much staked his claim to the central mid position at the minute so no. 10 is the logical alternative. Although Perez has shown improved from and contributes well defensively, he hasn`t been a roaring success offensively. Jonjo, on the other hand, is always succesful at being offensive.

      • Mick g

I agree Wor lass, he should be in the team but I think Merinio would be , out the two, the logical replacement for Perez, that’ s if he should be replaced, with Shelvey dropping in to Merinios current position. All in all a wonderful dilemma.

  • MichaelMaximusMoose

75% for Joselu that can`t be right, that many cant be that daft

    • anyobrien

Leads the line very well much more Mobile than mitro…. Give him a run and the goals will come.

  • MichaelMaximusMoose

Jonjo should always be in the starting line up,
i think El Supremo is giving him a smack on the backside

  • Paul Patterson

Swap Shelvey for Perez and it might be right.

    • Jimmy_toons

Definitely. Shelvey just hasn’t the pace to play the 10 role.

      • Paul Patterson

I think he can probably be a no10, a bit like Paul Scholes, he can certainly shoot.
I just don’t want to see Perez bombed out trying to accommodate him. He’s done nothing wrong yet.

    • Geordiegiants

Swap Shelvey and Merino I say.

      • anyobrien

Really… You been watching any games?

        • Geordiegiants

In the side above, play Merino number 10 and Shelvey in the middle.

          • Paul Patterson

I wouldn’t move a player who is already playing well. Just leave him where he is. Perez hasn’t done anything wrong so he should start. Shelvey can wait for an injury or suspension, which we hope doesn’t happen anyway.

          • Geordiegiants

You could be right, but if Wenger had thought about that with Henry for argument sake……………
