An exclusive on Friday afternoon reports that Nobby Solano is going to land his first management job in English football after this weekend’s games

Teamtalk say that their information is that the former Newcastle midfielder will take charge of Gillingham after they have played against Charlton.

They report that the announcement will then follow the departure of current boss Aidy Pennock.

Gillingham are currently rock bottom of League One with three points from the opening 21.

Last season they finished only one place and one point above the relegation spots down to League Two.

Teamtalk say that Gillingham’s Director of Football, Peter Taylor, has already told current manager Aidy Pennock that the game this weekend will be his last.

The report adds that Nobby Solano will have former Leyton Orient manager, Ian Hendon, as his assistant.

Good luck Nobby! This is the first step to becoming our manager and I just hope we have a new owner in place by then. Are you going to serenade the crowds with you trumpet at half time? I’d like to see them all dancing to your Latin American music and eating Peruvian fish soup instead of pies.

All the best Nobby, once bumped into him & Kieron Dyer in Newcastle on a heaving Saturday night, proper gent and Dyer was well, just been Kieron Dyer.

With a chairman/owner called Scally, the great Nobby Solano might have his work cut out. I watched Gillingham in the 80s when they fielded Steve Bruce, Tony Cascarino and Micky Adams. Since then they have gone downhill more than up. Good luck to the Peruvian trumpet major.

Got to love Wor Nobby….proper Toon legend!! I’m still celebrating his last minute winner against Leeds at Elland Road….that took us top of the Premiership all those years ago!! Never tire of Bobby Robson’s yarn recounting how he got woken up at 1am by Nobby playing a 10 minute sax rendition down the phone to him!! Class!!

  • Rich Lawson

Great player for us and seems a thoroughly nice man, good luck Nobby.

Gillingham still have a place in my heart:
    Sunday 17th May 1987.
You just had to be there! (Joker Park)

Gillingham, my second team, (for obvious reasons) and one of my favourite all time players.
    Good luck Nobby!
