  • Steve Smith

Good to see Shelvey is still on the bench and not an automatic starter.

    • MichaelMaximusMoose

Short memories there mate, he`s the best midfield player we have even though he`s not all there

      • Jezza

Agreed 100%. We have got a better team with Shelvey on the pitch.

        • TheNutJob

          2nd that Jezza

          • Andy Mac

Bliddy hell 3 of the Mag’s finest, all thinking that we’re still in the championship ? 🤔

        • Virsino

We were better today without Shelvey, and actually Perez had a pretty decent game.

          • Soldier

            you must be joking

          • Virsino

            about?

I would think on today’s team performance overall, including the performances of Hayden, Merino and Perez, Shelvey might be on the bench next week too. I’m not slating Shelvey, I’m just saying that based on what I saw today the team was better without him, and Perez had a decent game TODAY. I don’t see a joke there!

          • glassjawsh-got-banned

Perez DID have a decent game, but that (isolated incident) in no way means that Shelvey shouldn’t be in the starting XI.

      • Cuh

Discipline is key. He needs to know he’s not irreplaceable, especially as he was just that last season. Played so many games despite average showings at times last year. Seems to have gotten his head.

Besides, building a player-dependent team is not what we should be looking to do. Just look at Swansea without Sigurdsson

    • Kneebotherm8

More discipline required Jonjo, good to see there’s other options if he can’t/won’t buckle down.No one should be guaranteed a place in the team, irrespective of how talented they are.

  • lukegte

Oh, how I wish Benitez would play Shelvey instead of Perez. Looks like a pretty strong line up though!

    • Cuh

That would be the poorest decision of his NUFC career so far

      • lukegte

He trusted Mike Ashley and set himself up for frustration and disappointment. He won’t top that in terms of poor decision making. As for Perez, while he is on some pretty decent form, Shelvey is a better player. I’d argue if Benitez can bring that out of Perez in the Premier League, he can get even more out of a better player in Shelvey

  • TheNutJob

    1 up, TSN 4 live

    • Wor Lass

Is it Ritchie or Hayden that`s been booked? Cant tell from the Chronic report.

      • Dave Mitchison

        Hayden

  • DC1964

    Joselu has missed 2 sitters!

    • TheNutJob

that`s why he was only £5m & there must be a strong wind as Perez keeps falling over.
      decent 1st half though

      • DC1964

Yeah, played well, we should be 3-0 up and deservedly so! Hope those misses don’t prove costly.

        • TheNutJob

the 2nd effort was the worst, don`t know how he missed

          • DC1964

I know, hit it straight at the keeper who is one of the best at one on ones.

    • Jezza

Three now. That’s what you get when you’ve only got a budget of £5 million for a striker.

      • TheNutJob

to true, we need a quality striker, we should have been out of sight at half time

      • Cuh

Probably had more to do with the fact that he was playing his former employers, trying to prove a point, lost his composure. My guess

  • Andy Mac

Is Joselu the new Shola ?

    • DC1964

Should have had a hat trick!

  • DC1964

    FFS!

  • TheNutJob

    Jamaal does it again 2-1

    • Jezza

It says it all when a centre half is our best striker.

      • TheNutJob

        yes

      • Clarko

Won three in a row, 4th in the table, still complaining.

        #Deluded”Geordie”

        • BenMagpie

pathetic isn’t it? Joselu got himself in some great positions and couldn’t quite connect, we win, and they’re moaning. This site is laughable.

          • TheNutJob

it isn`t moaning to make a valid point

          • glassjawsh-got-banned

right? If the teams WINS, there’s clearly nothing WRONG with it? Or I would think that, if I was an idiot.

          • Carlo Ancelotti

Joselu was the weak link in the team it`s no good getting into the positions if you can`t finish, is it ?

        • Soldier

          Idiot

        • glassjawsh-got-banned

Hes not wrong. 3 Toon strikers have 2 goals in 5 games. #notgood.

          • Soldier

            of course he`s right

          • Clarko

            Not my point.

          • glassjawsh-got-banned

then what exactly is your point? other than being a contrarian?

          • Clarko

This is constant problem in our discussions, go back and read my first comment, the problem is the relentless complaining, my post didn’t warrant a reply that contained statistics about our strikers. Next time, ask yourself “what exactly is” this persons “point?” Before replying and save us both some time.

          • glassjawsh-got-banned

Ok, from now on you can be in charge of both your comments and everyone else’s replies to them. that way you’ll finally get the sort of discussion you’ve mandated needs to be going on here. Or, you could stop smelling your own farts for a moment and realize that talking about “football” and “goals scored” does in fact necessitate a discussion about “strikers” since that’s their primary function, you cement head.

          • Clarko

I didn’t mention any striker in my post…

          • Cuh

One got his goal in all of 15 minutes. If the others step up, we’ll be balanced

  • TheNutJob

    Jonjo`s on for Hayden

  • Virsino

Even though Zouma got a touch on the penalty call, his touch created a 2nd goal scoring opportunity, and his follow through prevented that goal scoring opportunity.

  • Andy Mac

Thank the Lord we’r not playing Citeh for a while. 0-6 🤔

  • Wor Lass

    Well done, Lads! 4th place!!

    • Andy Mac

Aye good to get the points in against inferior opposition (winding up the Stokies) as we’re gonna need them in the bank before we play the rest of the top five.

    • TheNutJob

      😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

  • Soldier

A great win & another 3pts in the bag, if Cashley had given Rafa his striker and number 10 we could be top 8 easy

    • Andy Mac

Indeed if only Fatman gave more than a t0ss ?

    • Jezza

Ha ha we’re top 4 at the minute but yes you are spot on about the striker situation. Very pleased with the win today but a bit concerning that we’re relying on a centre half to get the goals.

  • glassjawsh-got-banned

    only 31 points to go

    • TheNutJob

      😂😂

  • TheNutJob

I see Scotty`s beamed Clarko down

  • Steve Pearce

Captain Fantastic does it again! Fourth place and bring on the Seagulls – we are above Liverpool and Arsenal! Rafa has done a wonderful job with the players we were allowed to get and long my it continue.

    • TheNutJob

buying Lejeune has kicked Jamaal up the backside & he`s playing great

The Fat lad will flog him for £25m in the window
      😁😁

  • Alreet

This is a good time to get all the easier teams off the list. City are possesed atm and pool could have a bad day then a mega day.

Bring on hove. Keep it up rafa and all the lads.

Lots of hard work for the next 31 points.

  • Carlo Ancelotti

a solid result against a fairly good Stoke team, if fact they should have been dead & buried at half time if we had a 1st class striker
take nothing away from the team but we definitely need a striker who can finish,
maybe Joselu was trying to hard today but he should have had a least 1 goal

  • Cuh

The team is missing Mitrovic terribly.
Playing well without shelvey and gayle
Lascelles proving his quality. Still our 4th best centre back?
Ayoze Perez has had good games as number 10, another today
Jesus Gamez was solid last time out

Seems like a lot of the negative stereotypes are being broken

    • lukegte

The amount of chances created today was great to see, I’d love to see what Mitrovic could do with that kind of service. Joselu was wasteful, but maybe his mobility is vital to getting on the end of those chances. Does Benitex not see that in Mitrovic?
Hard to say RE centre backs. I’m not sure we can judge Lejeune or Mbemba, he’s not really been given a chance.
      Yedlin was great I thought.

They’re looking strong anyway. Only 31 more points needed.
