Chris Hughton after Brighton 1 Newcastle 0 “We deserved it”

Chris Hughton was a happy man on Sunday afternoon.

The former Newcastle boss celebrating his first win over Newcastle United as a manager.

Despite Newcastle having more possession, shots, and corners (see stats below), Chris Hughton felt ‘Overall, we deserved it’.

Newcastle drop to 9th with nine points and Brighton rise to 13th with seven points, Hughton declaring ‘We have learnt a lot in the games we have played so far’.

Newcastle dominated the final stages and the travelling fans were maybe wondering why more urgency and pressure wasn’t applied earlier in the game, as United were content to sit back.

At the end of the day though, after winning the last two games with set-piece goals, today Newcastle were on the wrong side of one.

Chris Hughton:

“It was a hard fought victory.

“Newcastle are a good side.

“They showed that in their last three games.

“There were not masses between the two teams.

“Overall we deserved it.

“Not a lot in it but we have deserved it.

“With seven points (from first six games) it is a decent return.

“We have learnt a lot in the games we have played so far.”
