On Friday morning we asked the question: Which 5 Newcastle players are most important for this season?

Only five Premier League matches played so far but a lot of opinions already being formed.

We listed the entire 25 man Premier League senior squad, plus Mikel Merino and Freddie Woodman who still qualify as Under 21 players.

From these 27 choices, we asked supporters to give us your 5 most important Newcastle players.

This is the support each player received as one of the key five players this season:

93% Ritchie

83% Merino

77% Lascelles

61% Clark

37% Elliot

34% Shelvey

33% Joselu

25% Atsu

14% Hayden

9% Mitrovic

8% Gayle

7% Lejeune

6% Mbemba

5% Perez

4% Yedlin

1% Dummett

Haidara, Woodman, Colback, Sterry, Aarons, Manquillo, Murphy, Saivet, Darlow, Gamez, Diame

  • Paul Patterson

Pleased to see Elliot getting some recognition. I think Shelvey COULD be an important player this season but I refrained from voting for him as our current form has been timed with his ban and absence from the side.

  • Wor Lass

A few players will be having a hard think about their game. Shelvey and Mitro must realise that they have to get their tempers under control if they want a chance to get in the starting line-up. With Mbemba looking increasingly comfortable at LB and Gamez playing so well at Swansea, Dummett knows that the days of being the only real option at LB have gone and Lejeune will have to play really well if he`s going to have a chance of breaking the current CB partnership. Gayle, Murphy and Aarons will all have to deliver when their chances come. It`s a great position for a manager to be in. Someone commented on TV yesterday (Sky Sports or MoTD) about the strength of our bench and how it didn`t used to be like that. let`s just hope we don`t have many big injuries this season, though.

  • Steve Pearce

I think Elliot deserves a higher standing in the points as against Stoke he showed he has got his mojo back with that stunning reaction save that contributed to the three points and our victory.
