Two players stand out who Newcastle United should at least have tried to sign
It is no secret that Newcastle United currently need a striker and a number 10, that are reliable and can cut it at this level.
In the turmoil of the strangest of transfer windows, it is obvious to me that two players stand out, who at the very least we should have been strongly linked with.
These players are Jack Wilshere and a loan move for Michy Batshuayi.
You would think that the price of £9m for Wilshere is something NUFC could afford for a player who has Premier League experience.
An England international and although he lost his way last season, the talent is undoubtedly there.
To have him in a number 10 role could prove pivotal to our creativity in the final third.
I doubt Chelsea would sell Batshuayi, and if they did, it would probably be out of our price range. It is also doubtful he will be getting much game time at Chelsea, especially with the recent purchase of Morata.
In this scenario, surely a loan move would be the most viable option for both parties.
It is an awful thought that if Dwight Gayle got injured, we would be relying on an erratic and non-prolific Mitrovic to keep us in the Premier League.
Pundits, coaches and fans alike, always highlight the lack of a goal scorer as a reason for failure. Gayle being injured just isn’t worth thinking about it!
Despite the chronic need for a left-back…I would go into the season a great deal happier if we have/had simply signed the above two players.
