Newcastle United have officially confirmed Siem de Jong has joined Ajax.

Sunday (see below) saw Dutch media break the news that the deal had been agreed, with the signing to be unveiled on Monday (today).

The Mag – 27 August 2017:

Siem de Jong has agreed a transfer back to Ajax according to breaking news in Holland on Sunday evening.

The midfielder moved to Newcastle in summer 2014  for a reported £6m fee from Ajax but the transfer was a disaster.

Ongoing injuries and lack of form, has led to only four league starts in the three years.

The Dutch media reports say Siem de Jong will be officially unveiled on Monday as an Ajax player (once again).

Now 28, the Dutch international is said to have agreed a three year contract and Newcastle will receive around £4m.

On Friday, Rafa Benitez announced at his press conference that ‘Siem de Jong is very close to (signing for) Ajax’.

The Dutch club haven’t had the greatest start to the season, losing at Heracles on the opening day of the season and then exiting the Europa League at the hands of Rosenborg.

Though they have recovered a little bit with league wins over Groningen at home and then away at VVV Venlo earlier today.

Friday 25 August 2017:

‘The Rafa Benitez West Ham Press Conference has taken place on Friday lunchtime.

The United boss giving his update on both the match and other issues at the club.

Emmanuel has left the club today and Rafa confirmed Siem de Jong could be joining Ajax any time shortly.

One player who won’t be leaving, unless anything changes, is Mitrovic. Rafa confirming there has been interest this month, although it is believed that has only been interest in loan deals so far.

The manager earlier confirmed Paul Dummett wouldn’t be fit for West Ham but hoped Florian Lejeune would be, however, Benitez revealed the Frenchman will still be missing.

That is also the case with DeAndre Yedlin, whilst Karl Darlow is the latest to pick up a know, so Freddie Woodman set for the bench.

Dwight Gayle will have a late fitness test, whilst the United boss revealed that Rolando Aarons is also a doubt for Saturday.

First quotes from the Rafa Benitez West Ham Press Conference:

“My mood is fine and I have the belief we will improve and confidence that we will do it, West Ham will be tough and they need to win like us.

“Siem de Jong is very close to Ajax, Emmanuel Riviere has gone to Metz – we have reduced the numbers and can now look for different options.

“It’s a long season. We have to start winning games but keep the confidence that we can improve.

“We have to move forward quickly. Getting three points in the next league game is our objective, our target.

“Lejeune (as well as Dummett) is not ready, Yedlin is still not ready and Darlow has a knock and will not be on the bench.

“We are reducing the number of players we have and we can keep looking for different options in the market.

“I have confidence the team will improve, if we keep working the way we are now.

“(Asked about Mitro) We don’t have too many strikers and we don’t want to lose one at the moment. We have had people asking about him for the last month.

“Every team has had problems. We had some big ones in the market but I don’t like to speak about others (unlike Slaven Bilic…).

“Dwight Gayle (who faces a late fitness test for West Ham) has had his ups and down – little by little he needs to get back to the level he was.”

It’s such great news, im also happy for him as he seems sound.
Good luck to the guy, I look forward to us reinvesting the money 🤞

      reinvesting the money
      😂😂😂😂

      • Jimblag23

I know 😂My tongue was in my cheek, but you never know.

      • Jezza

Fat chance of that. Ashley has got Charnley hard at work in these final few days of the window to balance the books and recoup every penny of the club’s meagre net transfer spend and maybe even come out of it with a profit if they can shift Mitrovic or Gayle before the deadline.

  • TheNutJob

Next up they`ll sell Mitro & replace him with a primark striker on a third the salary
and the Pie Man will add 7 or 8 million rolls of wallpaper to his collection at Mash

    • Jimblag23

If Mitro would be replaced with a primark striker, what does that make him?
      TK Maxx?

      • TheNutJob

he`s did the business in the games he`s played & was far superior to joselu in his cameo on Saturday

        • Jimblag23

I agree, I’m actually a big fan and just being an a$$.

        • Wat?

Are you tripping? He should have been off for a needless elbow. Joselu worked his nuts off closing west ham down. Mitro rarely breaks a sweat. Closed down a bit more than normal on Saturday but he’s still a lazy ass

          • MichaelMaximusMoose

besides the the point off or on i watched the full game Mitro was better than joselu & even Riviere couldnt have missed that goal

          • wat?

mitro could and had missed those sort of chances routinely.

You need to come off the glue, it’s clouding your judgement

  • Mark Kilmister

Glad Rafa has got rid of another one of Carr’s duff punt signings.
