Paul Merson predicts Newcastle v West Ham on Saturday

Paul Merson has been looking ahead to Saturday’s clash between Newcastle and West Ham.

The two sides are pointless at the bottom of the Premier League but something must change when they meet at St James Park.

Newcastle haven’t looked too bad at the back but have struggled to create chances and still haven’t scored.#

Whereas West Ham have have conceded more goals (seven) than anybody else but have done something Newcastle haven’t – invested in a quality striker.

Javier Hernandez scored twice at Southampton last weekend in the 3-2 defeat and has looked lively so far in the opening matches.

With the striker on form and Newcastle ‘in disarray’ according to Paul Merson, he has predicted a 2-0 win for the Hammers, which would send the Magpies pointless and goalless into the international break.

Arguably the biggest battles for Newcastle United, and especially Rafa Benitez, will be fought off the pitch in these next seven days.

Merson says ‘things could unravel’ if there isn’t action off the pitch and says ‘Rafa Benitez is not at the club to be an also-ran, he needs to be back in the market’.

The whole club needs a lift (or two) and three points on Saturday and at least a signing or two before the window close, would give everybody a starting point to attack this season.

Paul Merson talking to Sky Sports:

“The way Javier Hernandez has started the season has been very impressive.

“Against a Newcastle side that need several signings before Deadline Day, and appears to be in disarray, I fancy West Ham at St. James Park.

“Things could unravel for Newcastle if they’re not careful.

Rafa Benitez is not at the club to be an also-ran, he needs to be back in the market.”

Paul Merson prediction: Newcastle 0 West Ham 2
