Paul Merson has been taking a look at the Newcastle v Tottenham clash on Sunday.

The former Arsenal player thinks rivals Tottenham ‘Are as good as anybody in the league’, whilst Newcastle are…not.

He thinks that the fans could be the only thing that stands between Newcastle and instant relegation back to the Championship.

Naturally the lack of quality signings is at the forefront of his thinking and he also thinks Rafa Benitez will soon get sick, after a background of winning La Liga and the Champions League, as well as managing clubs of the calibre of Real Madrid.

On Sunday, Paul Merson believes that Newcastle will have no option but to attack with being at home and this could well lead to a ‘cricket score’ in his opinion.

It was 5-1 the last time the teams met but this time Merson goes for 0-3 and misery for Newcastle.

Paul Merson:

“Newcastle simply haven’t signed enough players.

“Rafa Benitez has managed at the top of European football and I’m sure he doesn’t have plans to stay in the Premier League by the skin of his teeth following promotion.

“I can see this whole affair at Newcastle coming to an end soon if Rafa continues not to be backed in the transfer market.

“They haven’t spent enough and if it wasn’t for the fans I’d tip them to go down.

Spurs are as good as anybody in the league and against a Newcastle side, who will have to attack in front of their own fans, this could be a cricket score.

Paul Merson predicts:

Newcastle 0 Tottenham 3

    What’s going on here?

You keep dragging out southerners, so of whom are virtual head-cases, to disrespect our club, our manager and indeed our city. You are called “The Mag” which is short for “Magpie” which means a Newcastle supporter. So get behind our team and inspire the people you bear the name of or you will find no one but no one will ever read these pages nor buy any of your merchandise again!

we all know he`s a plonky, but is he wrong ?
we`ll find that out on Sunday

      • Wor Lass

        I hope the numpty`s put his shirt on Spurs – he`s a cr*p gambler.

        • MichaelMaximusMoose

      • David John Oliver

Yes he’s wrong, you not watched us in pre season our football is much better and work rate as a team superior to when we were last in the prem

    • Wor Lass

They`re telling us what various plonkers on Sky are saying about us, Steve. We`ve had this particular heed-the baal several times. He`s predicted that Rafa wouldn`t stay with us once we were relegated and then he said he would walk out when we missed out on early targets. He`s thick but he seems to know how to milk a living out of the media (his main tactic being to set himself up as a laughing stock). I actually enjoy reading what all these failures like him, Saunders and Sherwood – not to mention that arch plonker Ian Wright – have got to say. It cheers me up! As a contrast, I found Pinocchio`s comments quite intelligent and close to the mark.

to many times last season we lost the battle in the midfield more often than not at home, what we did have was Gayle, Shelvey & Ritchie. this season the midfield hasn`t been strengthened, i expect a tough game against Spurs

    • David John Oliver

You are wrong, the midfield has been strengthened and players like Hayden and Shelvey have developed under Rafa and clearly from pre season become better individually and as a team, Merino also looks great, Newcastle will be fine this season just lazy fans want huge signings that they have heard of.

  • Mjw

same old Mersin talk is cheap how many times is he right not many wait and see Mersin or have u got inside information what a joke since when has 3.0 been a cricket score shows he doesn’t no his numbers

  • East Durham Mag

Most of the so called pundits can barely hide their contempt for Newcastle and are busting to see the club fail. F#ck the lot of them.

  • Jimblag23

If it was a cricket score at least we’d see us score quite a few goals too. 🙂

  • Tony denslow

Heres one. Cant wait to see us prove them wrong with a 2-1

        • East Durham Mag

Really hope you are right Mark.

    • GToon

He has been. He’s been going through his sums to tell me why Ashley shouldn’t back Rafa in the transfer market. His reply went on for ages and at the end of it I almost lost the will to live. ☹️

    • Oooh bobbi fleckman

I’ve been out for a long time, dear

Rafa didn’t succumb to pressure to attack at home in the Championship so why should he in the Premier League.

  • Paul Patterson

I hope some supporters want him to be wrong, sadly I think a few on here are willing him to be right.

  • Stephen West

  • HappyToons

What’s a cricket score? A single through the slips? A 4 past fine leg? A 6 over Long Stop? A century? 193 not out. If Spuds win 1-0 that’s a cricket score? Oh, I see 3 is the cricket score. Where’s my cricket bat. Where does Paul Merson live again. Ah yes, Silly Point. How many blows has he had to the heed? You guessed it…a cricket score.

  • jimmyjames

another bet your going to lose your money on you scruffy twa!

  • Andy james

He’s been on the sauce again… it will be a lot closer than a 3-0 whitewash for Spurs especially since they are missing their left and right back…
