Newcastle 0 Tottenham 2  – Sunday 13 August 1.30pm

Elliott 7 – Couldn’t do anything about the two goals, distribution was ok, didn’t do anything wrong.

Dummett – N/A (Not on long enough)

Clark 7 – Defensively did well and slotted in at left back but couldn’t offer anything going forward which was key in not being able to pose an attacking threat.

Lejeune 6 – Looked comfortable again for the short time that he was on. Big shame if we are going to lose him for a couple of weeks.

Manquillo 8 –  Composed on the ball, doesn’t offer much going forward, but at the same time, doesn’t look as bad as the player Sunderland fans made out we had signed.

Shelvey 0 – Didn’t get on the ball at all, and the odd time he did, couldn’t make anything happen with a few stray passes.

In the second half, his actions were pathetic and no less than a disgrace. Should be fined his wages for at least the time he is missing.

Hayden 7 – Looked really good, athletic, strong, composed on the ball. Understandably struggled after the red card.

Ritchie 6 – Failed to offer much going forward, and will have to fight for his place this season, especially at home, with Atsu and maybe Murphy posing a more attacking threat.

Atsu 9 – Best attacking threat and looked like our only threat going forward.

Perez 6 – A few good touches but lacked threat or pace on the counter attack. Still crying out for a proper no.10.

Gayle 6 – Very much isolated up top but chased down and worked very hard. Unlucky not to win a penalty after a great run.

Lascelles 7 – Slotted in well, caught under the ball a few times but put himself about and gave Harry Kane a really tough time.

Mbemba 7 – Another one who did ok but not much to say!

Merino 7 – Played more passes and had more touches in 15 minutes than Shelvey did all game.

Scores are well out, agree with Shelvey`s but, can I ask? Were you watching the same game as me or playing Fifa 17?

    • Jonathan Drape-Comyn

      What would you change?

    • Jonathan Drape-Comyn

I think your ratings are mental haha.

      • Toonbadger

good they come from a panel of 4 as an average

        • TheNutJob

in other words we were shyte

    • Ande Walsh

I think 4 is generous for Manquillo. He was at fault for both goals. The others are harsh, & you are a racist.

    • Kneebotherm8

The only score that matters is 0-2.

  • Albert Stubbins

Get rid of shelvey. Showed today what a prima dona he is. Prior to sending off strolled around pitch like he was on his hols. Petulant Child out of his league. Had enough of his pet lip already.

  • HarryHype59

I was at the match today. At times it looked like a training game for Spurs as they were having so much possession! Atsu played well and looks a good player. Creative midfielder and a striker asap or we will struggle big time!

  • X,WHY,Y MAN.

I got shot down before the season started for not fancying Shelvey in The Prem but today highlights exactly what you are going to get.
Apart from the immature petulance the man wants too much time on the ball and strolls around like tomorrow will do.
In reality he is part of the “Who Needs Him Club” but in typical Newcastle fashion we are stuck relying on him when he should be down the road for letting his team mates down !

Newcastle did okay today in the sense they were in no way overawed or massively outplayed up until the second half sending off.
The problem was glaringly obvious which most knew before the game kicked off but the people who it should concern the most were sitting in the stand grinning inanely all afternoon.
There is no cutting edge what so ever to this team and they could have played until tomorrow morning and not scored a goal.
Until the sending off they were in the game but not in the game if that makes any kind of sense.

You were really poor today, never look like scoring against a Spurs side

who they are doing. If I was a Newcastle fan i will be very worried becasue you got no strikler to score enough goals becasue Cashley,s lies, bull shit.,being a Sunderland fan myself said the same.we did win but we were not too clever today.Everybody were writting us off,no hope,Aston Villa are shocking right now that will please you lot becasue you hate ther Villa.we are your rivals as well.

  • Paul Busby

outclassed but held our own until.. Shelvey… ffs man.

    • love toon despite

Absolutely, Shelvey should be ashamed of himself.

  • Keeganontherebound

Not sure Shelvey even deserves O. I would have given him -10. Let’s hope someone is desperate enough to sign him in January or preferably now. As well as a striker, it should now be clear we need a creative midfielder – not in case Shelvey gets injured but so he doesn’t get anywhere near the team. It’s not the first time and he’s not a youngster anymore, I doubt he’s going to start learning from his mistakes. And he’s just sent out an invitation to all premiership players to wind him up and get an advantage against us…

  • Mark

I hope merino keeps shelvey out

    • Albert Stubbins

For the next three games its a certainty.

  • mentalman

How manquillo got an 8 i dont know, he was at fault for both goals and made a few mistakes and offered little going forward.
Mbemba looked good as did hayden.

Ritchie looked poor move him to number 10 and play a winger who can run

How about a rating for rafa, personally I’d give him a 2, got the tactics and game plan wrong and everyone could see atsu had the rb and cb beat so why not give the instruction to give it to him at every opportunity. He also waited too long to bring merino on

  • Chris

    Manquillo an 8?
We were grinding to the do the best that we could do, but looked somewhat like the Brighton game yesterday, it felt like it was a matter of time, even without the red card. I actually thought it would end up 2-0 last night, then 2-0 still at half time, then thought we were lucky to be 2-0 at the end of the match.

    • Andy Mac

Agreed. The only positive ? It was only 0-2

  • Cuh

    Gayle above 5? Wow

  • Stephen Paylor

    Elliot – 6
    Manquillo – 6
Lejeune – 7 (looked top class until he went off)
    Clark – 7
    Hayden – 6
Shelvey – 5 (stupid mistake, needs to mature fast)
    Ritchie – 6
    Atsu – 7
    Perez – 6
    Gayle – 6

    Lascelles – 6
    Mbemba – 6
    Merino – 6

  • Jezza

27% possession at home. If that’s not a sign of a woefully inadequate team, hopelessly unequipped to survive at this level then I don’t know what is. Ashley’s shoestring transfer policy is coming home to roost. It’s going to be a long hard winter.

    • MichaelMaximusMoose

Not enough quality where it matters, Rafa will be off if the situation doesn`t improve

      • Kneebotherm8

If the likes of West Ham have a bad start to the season, then you could see them looking at Rafa. Would he stay or would go?

        • Munich Mag

I reckon Bilic will get 10 games max, get your sponoolicks on him being the first epl manager to get bladdered. 60k crowds, 50 mill wasted on old gadgies, plus god knows how much on bloated loan salaries. The bloke is on borrowed time.

          • Kneebotherm8

Aye,they had a good start at Manure today. They’d welcome Rafa with open arms and he’d be appreciated by their ownership, unlike ours, who,it would seem, are taking the Mick out of him.

      • Andy Mac

For quality read “Intelligence, innovation, ability to pick a pass, good with both feet and comfortable on the ball”

So when’s Messi coming then ?

    • Munich Mag

Don’t be such a negger man ;-) Our defence looked quite solid until bullet brain done his stamping trick. Thought Atsu looked excellent, a real positive. Not sure whee our goals are going to come from though.

      • Jezza

What exactly is there to be positive about? A summer of spectacular failure in the transfer market? Going into a Premiership season with one decent striker on our books, a striker who is likely to miss as many games as he plays? Our main rivals in the relegation battle by and large all getting off to a flying start while we lost our first game? Our manager, the first decent one we’ve had in years, on he brink of walking?

“Our defence looked quite solid until…” Good God, you mean we looked for a while as if we might be able to hold on for grim death and grind out a 0-0 draw at home before actually losing the game and that’s supposed to be a positive. I despair.

        • Andy Mac

Dont despair Jezza we’ll get rid of the deadwood and buy back Murphy with the proceeds ;-)

          • Rich Lawson

I believe Nile Ranger is momentarily available to play again !

        • mentalman

          Didn’t Brighton lose?

          • Jezza

Alright, Brighton may have lost if you want to split hairs. Does that really change anything about the desperate situation we are in?

  • nevfur

Don’t we get to vote on these now?

  • HenrySlade

If nearly all our players looked so good, then how come we lost?

    • Leazes Ender

The scoring….Its out of 20….. By the same yardstick Spuds players must have got 18s and 19s
